Some people like to play with counters that showed what action the formation took. ?It really isn't necessary I suppose, but it certainly helps in a tournament to know for certain which formations marched, which ones were given overwatch orders, etc. ?It avoids arguments over silly things.
In the UK, tournament players also use markers to indicate that the formation has activated - as Hena says, OW, March are important as well. If you use the BFG order dice, you can also use the remaining dice to keep track of the number of remaining activations on both sides etc
the Order Dice were introduced for Epic 40,000 (or 3rd ed). they were re-introduced along with the Firepower table. Some systems just need the right setting to gain the audience i guess...
Regardless, the Order Dice work really well for EA along with a product from GF9:
11140 GF9 Game Accessories Pack #04 - Move / Shoot / Speed .
these handy little chevron-shaped counters help keep track of advances, doubles and sustained fire very neatly while the Order Dice do the rest. (for me at least).
I never kill Moscovian without them!
