Greatly miffed at missing the event, which sounds as though it was at least as good as usual.

However, I am relieved at missing the chaos on the roads:- In 2004 I was one of the 10k people who got caught out getting home from work. I was travelling from MK to London and had to spend the night in sub-zero tempratures until an extremely thoughtfull farmer arrived in a Land Rover and ferried several of us to a nearby Holiday Inn. It took me just shy of 24 hours to go ~60 miles. Not an experience I want to repeat.

Managed to get a few shots, although after downloading the pics it would appear I had some crazy setting selected and most of them haven't come out that well.

Yay. 2.5 hours to get the 15 miles home... Could have been worse, my housemate was in London playing a gig and got home at 5am...

Thank you to Steve and Mephiston for organising, and to my three opponents (who didn't thrash me and leave me with another wooden spoon), and particularly to the folk who voted my LatD (players choice) best painted. Yay!

As I didn't leave them out set up for display proper, there's not going to be any good pics of them from the tournament, so, I've got a shot of the entire army here:

Sorry I can't remember which army belongs to which player guys - let me know if you'd like your name added to your (blurry) army shot above.

Cheers

Had a great time at FSA, and, to echo some of the previous comments, was great to meet/see some new faces too.

Hope all the newcomers had a good time?

Thanks also to my three opponents for three games which were all good fun. Brief overview below....

Game 1 - Luca77, Steel Legion Guard
Making his debut, Luca77 played extremely well, pressing hard and without making any mistakes that I can recall. Some minor list and tactical tweaks will see him easily being competitive at future events. And a really nice guy to boot!
Result 2-0 to Orks

Game 2 - MikeT, Nids
Played Mike at the GT last year, and somehow managed to win despite being ripped to bits in the game. This time around was much the same, expect Mike got the result he deserved. Highlight (or lowlight, depending on how I look at it...) was a Landa full of Orks being blown out the sky by his (swear) gargoyles despite them needing 7's to hit!
As with every previous game I've played against Mike, this was VERY bloodthirsty, but also great fun.
Result 3-0 to Nids

Game 3 - Curis, Chaos
Never played Curis before, but enjoyed coming up against him and his Chaos. Odd game of three thirds, the first turn was largely uneventful (most of his army waiting off board to appear, and mine in Landas). The second turn consisted of him ripping me to bits in combat, pinpoint attacks, orbital bombardments and daemon summoning, while somehow broke his various daemon engine formations. The third turn saw me start with 8 activations to his 4, and able wait for him to commit and then claim/contest objectives as I liked.
Result 2-1 to Orks

So, two wins and a loss, two new opponents, and one extremely long fun drive home. Cheers to Jon for making it a great road trip, if not for his weather prediction when we arrived of "Don't think we're going to get any snow...", and hopefully we'll see some of you guys make the trip down south for Counterattack in May.....

Cheers

Reedar

Well, that was a fun tournament. Thanks to Steve and Epic UK for organising another great event.

Somehow, I managed to win the thing! I was massively shocked, as I’ve always been firmly mid-table in previous tournaments. I expect winning may be a one-off experience, so I’ll make the most of it for now. :)

Anyway, thanks to my opponents for three very enjoyable and friendly games.

Game 1: The first game was against Jon and his space marines. This was Jon’s first tournament, but it was a good close game with lots of damage dealt on both sides. I managed a 3-0 win in the end, but that score probably flatters me to be honest. It felt closer than that during the game, as Jon’s air assault caused carnage and I spent a lot of time sorting out terminators in the backfield rather than doing anything more aggressive. I got lucky destroying the BTS (a warhound pack) and then was wily about achieving the goals in turn 3. Jon was a very sporting opponent, and I hope he enjoyed the tournament.

Game 2: My second game was against Chris (Curis) and his exquisitely painted World Eaters army. Another fun game against a great opponent. I spent most of this game terrified of the hordes of very hard and fearless things rumbling in my direction and descending on me from space. Eventually though, sheer weight of numbers told and I managed to kill off most of the enemy while still having a reasonable number of ork boyz remaining. Without enough activations left, Chris couldn’t stop me getting a 4-0 victory.

The highlight of this game was when the two BTS formations went toe-to-toe at the centre of the table (my Warlord leading his massive horde of boyz against a load of khorne berserkers and daemons, led by a daemon prince). The orks got the better of it after drawing the first round, but Chris seized some measure of revenge by swiftly running over my Warlord with his Lord of Battles a few moments later.

Game 3: For my third game I found myself enjoying the heady heights of the top table, facing the mighty Dave Thomas and his Blood Angels. Dave is great to play against – he will almost certainly beat you, but he’s a gentleman about it!

Anyway, I had a bit of luck at the start of this game by winning the initiative. I took this chance to soften up his BTS with my fighters and then dropped a landa on it. A few nice dice rolls later and Dave’s BTS was dead. 1-0 to me.

I then spent the next three and a half turns hanging on for dear life. By Turn 4 Dave had an activation advantage and so was dictating the pace. He was leading 2-1 going into the final dice roll of the game – I needed to roll a 4+ to rally my horde of boyz and deny him “They Shall Not Pass”.

I made the roll and (though I didn’t realise it at the time) that roll won me the tournament. The game ended 1-1 on goals, with Dave scoring more victory points and so claiming a winning draw.

I was pleased with how things had gone in the tournament, but had no clue I’d won. I assumed that Dave getting the better of our draw would take him ahead of me. I also thought that, because we’d drawn on the top table, whoever won on table two might leap ahead.

Apparently not though – I’d done enough in my first two games to stay ahead of Dave by 2 points, despite him edging our draw. I’ll take it!

What a great day – capped off by a five hour drive home in the snow, occasionally stealing sneaky glances at the trophy.

Just got back home to Exeter after an epic journey with a few snow filled twists and turns along the way.

Wow! Have to say thank you to Steve, Mephiston and all the guys who arranged this fantastic tournament, what a great day! The atmosphere was really relaxed, good humoured and a nice surprise to all the stories I'd heard about other tournament games. Felt more like a club night which is how it should be. Was great to meet everyone and play my first ever games of EA against Simon, Erin and Jon (dammit, I've played three games now so can no longer use the rookie excuse). Have definitely caught the tournament bug now so will try and make it to Westbury and Leytonstone later in the year.

Special thanks to both Simon and Erin for helping me get to grips with the rules and sorry to Erin and Jon for overusing the Eldar 'Sieze the initiative actions over and over again. We might have completed the game had I not been a little bit too over enthusiastic with this on the night.

Everyone at Maelstrom games were really friendly and hospitable too so all round brilliant weekend.

Had a blast playing Eldar on the day but I'm thinking towards Chaos for the upcoming tournaments perhaps... Glad they're a few months away as have been 'ordered' by the wife to take her out more and take a break from painting :0)

Few photos here but as playing all day didn't get chance to take many, excuse the blurry ones. Feel free to post your captions under the photos

Tim

You're not kidding. In the 4 years worth of tournament records Epic-UK has on the site, Dave has a overall record of 66 wins and 27 draws, with only *5* lost games... (Steve G and Joe J are in the same ballpark for wins and draws, but with 21 and 14 losses each respectively.)
