All due respect intented but most of the NETERC do not play in UK tournaments. The lists EPIC UK will be designing are designed by UK EPIC tournament players who, between them, have played hundreds of tournament games against different players all over the UK, with different armies. I feel that these people have more experience than the NETERC for UK tournament lists.

Absolutely no argument from me there at all. You guys are fantastic in organisation and you do a great deal for the community. I just still dont see why we need another set of lists? Why not just combine the NetERC with the tournament organisation in some way to produce a single set of lists for everyone?

Also EPIC UK does not fragment; in fact it pulls things together. A new player can log onto the website and get their army list, enter the tournament and download the rulespack. www.epic-uk.co.uk is a one stop shop and makes entering UK tournament so much easier.

Please dont take this the wrong way, but it does. It presents another view, another set of army lists and another set of rules ammendments. Sure, it presents the views of the tournament group, and it presents them in one place, which is great, but it is another set of documents. So, either the epic-uk web site acknowledges the other development efforts which are ongoing, and presents yet more options and confusion, or it doesnt and risks people viewing this as side-lining other activity.

If this issue is marketting and advertising then lets deal with that, but it isnt.

The game is not fractuing, regular uk tournamet goers (incuding the epic uk chairman) attending the international warlords tournament in Belgium next month is testement of this.

I wish you knew how seriously Matt takes the views of those who attend his events- this is the will of the majority.

I dont doubt that for one second. I have absolute respect for Matt, his efforts and his intentions.

This may be helpful for tournament goers, but it will further confuse non-tournament players, and in particular new players which we really need to encourage.

So, what is the purpose of the current lists being developed here?

It certainly seems to me that Epic UK own lists represents some kind of increased fracturing.
It certainly seems to me that Epic UK are making it possible to move things forward a little and keep things together for tournament goers.

Note: Epic UK tournaments are not the only epic tournaments in the country. The majority are, but then we also have 1st Company Veterans Open War twice a year and Game's Workshops own Call To Arms. These organisations tend to use the official GW documents only, with no amendments. I, for one can, cope with the differences. I'm sure if I attended a Tourny in France, I could cope with their differences too. One just needs to brush up on the rules of each tournament and prepare before hand. It's not difficult.

Perfect unity across the entire globe would be highly desirable - but it doesn't vex me much if their isn't. It doesn't even vex me that there's not even unity within the UK or even between my mates, so long as I know what's what before hand.

Army Lists - Probably the most exciting bit for all you lot. On this part of the website you will be able to find the current Games Workshop EPIC army lists (even the Chaos ones). However EPIC UK will also be uploading new army lists starting with the Space Marines. 5 new Space Marine army lists are being created (due to be released around the end of March, keep a look out on the 'news' part of the website) including:

Generic Space Marine Army List
Dark Angels Army List
Blood Angels Army List
Black Templars Army List
White Scars Army Lists

Is there a place where the work on these lists can be viewed?  Or is it "closed" development?

Thanks!

Fracturing suggests a growing gap, the uk tournament goer wants a set of lists anchored so they can get on and play, surely this would slow the fracturing between France, the uk and the net?

The the french rules were all that different I wouldn't be going myself!

Not entirely. Fracturing represents a number of gaps, large or small, giving multiple distinct paths or routes, each being exclusive of any other path or route.

Army lists will not be available until:

1) the army list is due out (so Space Marines - April 2009)

2) Or for special events (for example Full Scale Assault)

The reason these are unavailable is because they are always changing. We only want to release army lists to the public when they are final (or else people might paint up formations that don't make the final cut). Don't worry, all lists are playtested by a large number of the UK tournament community.

Do worry

Don't you mean the negative to this Matt.

As a UK tournament player I support this activity, I have Nid and Tau forces that I want to play in tournaments and if this is a way to get them there then I'll support it.

Lists have been playable and almost tournament ready in the past only for suggestions/enthusiam to pick up the lists and change them again. After all these years I just want to play.

Look I'm posting at work ... I am bound to get a couple of words wrong :)

Both Nids and Tau will hopefully be done in the future.

As a UK player, and a big supporter of the NetERC model, I find this extremely worrying. We do not need yet another semi-unofficial marine list. What exactly is wrong with using the NetERC marine list, which has had FAR more playtesting (and open playtesting no less) than this in-house list?

The whole point of the NetERC is to produce, though extensive open playtesting, tournament balanced lists.

Frankly, efforts like this, while no doubt noble in intention, devalue to the work of the NetERC.

And here's me thinking we were finally getting some kind of stability into Epic. Oh, well - I guess my group will be doing the 40K tournaments instead again this year.

Whatever EpicUk say, this is clearly fragmenting the Epic scene - and I can only see the closed development of armylists as a slap in the face to all the hard working gamers who produced the excellent Epic:Raiders.

I can only see Epic:UK catering to its own small number of tournament gamers. It certainly doesn't seem to be catering to me.

Regards,
Reaver

Found this in the links section of Epic:UK :

'Tactical Command (often called Tac Com's) is probably the largest online collection of epic players. Details of many variant lists, variant rules as well as inspiring battle reports and modeling ideas can be found in its thousands of posts. A must for all epic fans.'

'The largest online collection of epic players.' And yet the development and playtest efforts of these players is ignored. I am not impressed.

Regards,
Reaver

I had been considering attending one or more of the Epic Uk events this year. In the light of this schism I will no longer be attending any.

Okay, can we keep this friendly and unheated?  No need to have a schism.

I've contacted Ottermatthew, on behalf of the NetERC, about the lists and, while I won't reveal any information about them, I think we should all just cool down.

We're all Epic Warriors here and want our game to survive and grow.

Now go take your aggression to the Tau or Tyranid forums!   :))

Guys.

It has been noted that the Epic UK initiative only caters for Epic UK tournament players.

This is entirely true.
There is no problem with this.

If you're not an Epic UK tournament player than just ignore it. Think of it being like  a club's own private stuff. Most who have complained are not regular attendees of Matt's tournaments

If you're not an EUK tournament player, but would like to start attending, the transition from what you already know will not be hard.

If you just don't like it and refuse to play anything other than standard GW Epic or NetERC epic, then don't attend.

The choice is yours.
