So in my belief that I was going to see plenty of Marine and Chaos armies to mirror the GW GT I set off to OW10 with a shooty Eldar skimmer army only to end up facing two guard armies. That’s me told then. ÂÂ
First game, once I finally arrived at Nottingham, was against Richard who had turned up on the off chance that there might be a space going and he got to play me. Richard was playing with a Guard army that had 2 formations of Vultures and Storm troopers with Valkerie, plus a Regimental HQ, two formations of Infantry Companies and some Thunderbolts. This was not what my falcons and fire prisms wanted to see. The game was very close however I felt a little bit hamstrung when I failed the four out of my first 9 activations. I even had one formation of Falcons fail to activate three turns in a row. Time was running out by the time we ended the third turn and decided that rather than ruin our lunch break we would call it a draw and settle with honours even. Apart from the appalling activation rolls, the ability of Richard to score hits on my Reavers followed by criticals to remove their void shields was amazing
Second game of the day was against Alan and his Space Marines. This was another closely fought battle with my Reavers squaring up against Alan’s Revenant. The Titan stood with one point of damage and one void shield against my pair of sustaining Reavers. Launchers took out the shield and Pulse Lasers scored 7 hits only for the Reaver to shrug them all off. After four hard turns we went to points and I was just victorious.
Last game of the tournament was against Matt A (Rug) and his Guard. Matt made a few mistakes during his set up after convincing himself that there were some Aspects in my Vampire Raider. However he soon made up for that by showing me my mistake of setting up my Aspects loaded in their Wave Serpents. Two Deathstrikes later and the formation was broken, Matt retained and Manticored a neighbouring formation of Windriders and catching the broken Aspects. Windriders were broken and Aspects wiped out from Disrupt hits. I had thought that the Deathstrikes would shoot at the Reavers and instead had been given an important lesson. After the loss of my Aspects I felt that I was fighting a losing battle and pushed hard hitting his smaller formations to try and get the draw. It wasn’t pretty but it was a great game again and Matt secured a well deserved 2-0 victory.
Three great games and a very tiring day. I look forward to renewing hostilities at the end of November and I would like to echo Alan’s sentiments and wish Bill all the best.
