I already sent the flyer along. ?I'll just wait and see if they can assist. ?I expect an email from him by the latest Tuesday. ?He seemed utterly shocked when I told him we made our own supplement. ?

I would love to be a fly on the GW walls when / if they get round to reading the Raiders supplement - for something produced by 'mere' fans it is a mind-blowingly awesome piece of work, at least as good as the official GW offerings.

The pixie in me would love to set up a small stand by your tounament tables with these on it - just to see the reaction of the staff on the official stall :p ?:D

As Jervis is going to be there, I'd be a shame if he at least didn't end up with a copy by sundown.

Well done indeed. GW US had a change at the top a few years ago (bringing in a top NE guy, I believe), and the word from various businesses and others is that they are actually doing a fantastic job, working with players, retailers and communities now. If only we could get the same kind of thinking over here.

Of course, any new Epic fans and players will find beginner support here.

Please continue to liaise with GW US for us. If we can make this work, and grow, maybe it will spread. Thanks for all of your effort. The Epic community does appreciate it.

Get a few copies of Raiders done by a printer/binder?

I have been discussing the idea of making some copies of Raiders with various people.  The trick is to make it without any profit whatsoever, so I have to be extremely careful and document everything.  If I did so it would be a limited run (50 copies or so).  I did find a place online that would do them for about $15 each. +/-

I am still unsure about this, but leaning in the direction of printing them.  I'll post a new thread and see if anyone is interested in helping me defer the costs.

Umm, perhaps getting people to pre-order with an up-front payment of $10 would both help with the initial costs, and also indocate the numbers needed. I have a suspicion that you might need to print off more than 50 copies, especially if you extended the distribution worldwide . . . . (and not just to show off to the GW mob at the show  ).

I would certainly be interested.

For what its worth, a friend did exactly this for his C18th rules, ran off 200 copies and is now having to consider another print run. Also, it will get cheaper with quantity.

C18th... Excuse my ignorance but what is that and was it a GW product?  My biggest concern is not the cost but the idea of being sued or having the Raiders supplement shut down in its entirety.

I think doing it as a zero-profit endeavor would make them happy, but quite frankly I don't know if I want to ship out 200 copies of Raiders to people for nothing.  That is a lot of work!  50 I can see.  200 is getting a bit whacky.  Plus 200 copies means putting out about $2000-3000 dollars which I do not have.  I could charge it on a credit card but then there are interest charges and the possibility of being stuck paying for half of them if there isn't enough interest.

So I think 50 copies will have to do.

One thing you may want to do and get GW to add to their tournament list is a link to a page explaining all the additional armies.

I've seen a lot of "what the hell is the " comments in various places.

Pretty much any gamer not reading this site is not going to know what these are so a summary page might be useful.

I did that... and they removed the links from the thread.  I don't know why but I imagine that they don't like linking off of GW.  At this point I just hope anyone interested will email me as I do have the original document with all the links built into it.

I think just making one or two nice-looking ring-bound copies to show off at games day would be fine to start. Actually making a print-run and that starts getting a little dodgy. But definately bring a full-colour copy with you!

I also agree about the tournament armies - I would make a simple webpage (geocities would do!) with a description of each list, where it's at and a link to the list. It would also be good to make a list of those additional armies as and when you know. For example, I'll be bringing Grey Knights. It would be really good if people preparing for the tournie would be prepared to meet them! That way you can ask them to link to your page on the tournament listing and then you can update your page as and when you need to.

Edit - hmmm... well, anyone who wants to sign up has to email you, right?

Hehehe - C18 is nothing to do with GW

I am primarily a "historical" gamer, and in my circles C18 stands for '18th century' - basically The Malburian age, the Great Northern war between Sweden and Russia, the war of the Austrian Succession, the Seven years War, the Russio-Turkish war, the beginnings of the Napoleonic period - - ?oh and that minor skirmish in the "colonies" which your rebels fondly refer to as 'the American War of Independence' ?

I absolutely understand the issues over the cost of a print run; which was why I was suggesting that you could both remove the financial burden and some of the uncertainties over volume by getting people to pre-order from you, paying part of the price up front.

For example, suppose the printer tells you that that up to 50 copies will cost $15 each to produce, while 200 copies will cost $10 each. ?So you set up a site (possibly here with CS permission) asking people to reserve a copy. You charge them $10 (the lower amount) up front with the proviso that there could be an additional cost of up to $5 in addition to the postage charges (which are pretty easy to work out). Give people a deadline to get their orders in, and trot round to the printers with the cash in hand to run off the number of copies ordered.

We the 'paying' public are out of pocket a few dollars while we wait for our individual copies that you have so kindly arranged to print for us - you have the costs covered either way (and more importantly the quality of the product is predetermined), and you print off just what is needed. It is totally non-profit (and can be demonstrated as such) and everyone is happy.

As for being sued - others may well know better, but as the ideas, content, narrative etc are all yours; and as it has been produced entirely outside the GW, I would have thought there would be very few grounds if any that they could bring a successfull suit. But then I am not a lawyer nor in the US, so I am probably totally wrong.

Note:- any notion of verbal coercion real or otherwise; any implication of sanity however misread or missunderstood; any connection with alien bodies or beings of an unearthly nature; or any suggestion that the above is factual, written, transmitted or even made up of electrons will be strenuously denied by my psychiatrist   :p

So are Grey Knights balanced?

I would suggest putting something on the SG site with Andy's help and telling GW US to link to that.

I agree with Ginger that prepaying would be a good idea.  I certainly don't mind paying up front and don't want someone going out of pocket for this project.
