Just a reminder to get entries in for Open War 9. It's always been a great one day tournament, and I can't see any reason why this one shouldn't be any different! It's ?15 with food included. You can find details at: ]http://www.1stcompanyveterans.net/homepage/

There is debate going on over on the SG forum, here, with regard to the effectiveness of Supa-Zzap guns.

To get some testing in a tournament situation I have proposed that in the thread we create the definate supa-zzap army list and test it against all comers at Open War. This should hopefully be less scary than facing Nids or possibly Tau. However you have been warned and please come and post your thoughts on how to make the list as zzappy as possible.

Tim

30 minute games  0_0. That seems exceptionally short.

Game time is 2.5 hours each. Tight but do able if everyone keeps on going.

Even though I have not played with some of these rules before, I think that we should use them. It won't change army lists that much.

If you contact Scott Bennett - Baldy B on the SG forums, you might be able to get a place as at the moment there are odd numbers for epic(15)

Steve, If I ask one of the MK Veterans he would probably swap from Fantasy to Epic if that would help?

I think Scott will probably make up the numbers so unless anybody else wants to play we should be ok, thanks though Dave

The limit for numbers allowed has been passed already so it may not be possible to get extras in.

Epic is only 6 entries behind WFB if the latest numbers from the 1st Co. Vets are correct.

I haven't seen the results of Open War 9 posted yet, so I thought I'd stick them here.

Sorry for the messy format. Total tournament points are shown first to make it a bit clearer, followed by name, army, score for each of the three games, and finally painting.

Here goes:

92 David Thomas, LatD, 25, 22, 22, 23
83 Nathan Hoole, Chaos (not sure which), 22, 13, 25, 23
80 Matthew Otter, Space Marines, 12, 22, 22, 24
74 Kevin Bott, Chaos (not sure which), 3, 22, 25, 24
63 Simon White, Orks, 13, 25, 3, 22
63 Gary Preedy, Imperial Guard, 13, 3, 22, 25
63 Bill Ely, Siege Masters, 25, 12, 3, 23
62 Steve Gullick, Black Legion, 3, 22, 13, 24
61 Damian Bradley, Imperial Guard, 22, 3, 12, 24
57 Alan Saunders, Space Marines, 12, 22, 0, 23
50 Tim Hunt, Orks, 0, 3, 25, 22
43 Simon Jenkins, Space Marines, 19, 0, 0, 24
34 Mark Preston, Space Marines, 6, 3, 3, 22
26 Mark Williams, Space Marines, 0, 3, 0, 23

This was the first tournament I've entered and I had a great time, so thanks to my three opponents for some excellent games (weirdly, they were all Space Marine players :)).

I wasn't sure what playing in a tournament atmosphere would be like, so it was nice to find that the Epic crowd really are a friendly and co-operative bunch, even in tournament conditions. I think they only rules debates that came up in the games I played were when one or other of us was making a point in the opponent's favour!

It was surprising how gruelling it was though - three games of Epic in a day is a lot, but playing at top speed to try to finish in the time limit made it doubly tough.

I liked that element though - made it feel different to lazy games at home, made you feel like you'd worked for each result.

Anyway, can't wait for the next one.
