With respect to the change to TSKNF and the halving of BM in the combat resolution. Why was this needed? Against a combat orientated army, it is hard enough to place enough BM as it is, but this makes it almost worthless I would rather in hindsight shoot at another formation instead now.

Jervis understood that Marines were underpowered, but didn't want to make stat or points cost changes to army lists unless it was truly unavoidable... that left only Special Rules and the Army List to modify.

My list was

Tactical + Hunter + AT Razorback + Librarian.....450
Devastators + Hunter + Supreme Commander..425
Scouts + AT Razorback.......................................175
Scouts + AT Razorback.......................................175
Scouts................................................................150
Land Speeders...................................................200
Terminators + Chaplain......................................375
Thunderhawk.....................................................200
Thunderhawk.....................................................200
Warhound..........................................................250
Warhound..........................................................250
Thunderbolts......................................................150

game 1 v. Paul Sutton (Imperial Guard) W 2-0 (I think this finished 2-0)
I have played Paul quite a few times now at tournaments and each game has always been fun but each time the games get closer and closer.
game 2 v. Matt Arnold (Space Marines)  W 2-0
I have played Matt quite a few times too and as always a very tight and tactical game,Matt nearly forced a draw with time being too short for me to force a 4th turn and hopes of getting a more comfartable win.I had to rely on a Terminator Air Assault on the Reaver at the end of the game to claim a win. This was a game that was tense at the time but fun to look back on.
game 3 v. Kevin Bott  (Black Legion)   L 2-1
First time I've played Kev at a tournament but we play at W.W. on Thursdays so we knew each others forces well.Great Game with me not being able to surpress enough Flak to do the Air Assaults I wanted to.Also Kev teleporting in 2 chosen formations with no BMs and then winning the Strategy roll(turn 2) and then my Terminators failing to come on as the last activation of turn 3 due to 1 BM meant Kev got a well deserved win.
game 4 v. Mark Williams (Eldar)        W 2-0
Mark's ability to roll poorly at critical times(3 or 4 critical assults failed to happen for Mark because of initiative failure rolls when my initiative roll failures didn't seem to be at critical times of the game)meant a win by grabbing objectives at the end of turn 3. A really fun game but it got were I was almost feeling sorry for Mark with his rolling(almost  :p )
game 5 v. Steve Gullick(Black Legion)  D 0-0
Steve is another regular opponent of mine and I believe our knowledge of each others armies and tactics cancelled each other out.Great fun game as always against Steve,I felt I had the upper hand in the early turns but was happy not to have to go to a 5th turn as it was very close.Despite the outcome of this game deciding who had the better chance of winning the tourney it was probably my most relaxed game of the event.
game 5 v. Kevin Bott  (Black Legion)   W 3-0
My second game against Kev went better for me.Better positioning of objectives(out in the open)and Kev's 2 chosen formations this time each getting a BM and me winning the strategy roll afterwards won me the game this time.Probably Kev having a long and tough game against Tiny Tim in round 5 leaving him mentally tired was a factor too with me having a relaxed game against Steve.

Out of the 13 players at Call to Arms there were only 4 Guard and Ork armies (including my Speed Freaks) with 3 of them ending up in the bottom 5. I am afraid that we will lose the diversity of forces being taken to tournaments if we are not careful.

You may well have a valid point, though I originally predicted a lot of Marines (of either stripe) would be at the tournament due to the 2 hr time limit.

I should also thank GW, Andy and his crew of helpers for hosting us. Despite the loss of Mordheim I hope they feel pretty positive about the event.

I play my Speed Freaks quickly, just everyone else spend a lot of time wandering what to do against them.  :))

We have to be careful with all the changes that are wanted for the lists by some players as even small changes have a big effect.

The Eldar are a prime example of this ,there were calls for wholesale changes to the swordwind list but the official changes have brought them down enough already.Especially the spirit stones loss and the resulting failures of activations which also hinders the ability to retain.

As for the marine changes I think points increases will only affect the powergamers as it will be easy to juggle a few points to keep effective lists for normal armies.

btw, just because I'm a total nerd, I've kept a tally of the number of times armies have been taken over the past two years. Here it is:

Marines : 40
Guard   : 36
Orks    : 28
eldar   : 27
BL      : 27
l&d     :  5
nids    :  4
siege   :  4
w scars :  2
f orks  :  1
freaks  :  1

I wouldn't read too much into it though...

Screwing powergamers is a worthy cause!

Before we start condemning the Marines/Chaos for finishing in the top 6 of tournaments why not check the amount of times the same armies are finishing in the bottom 6 too.

If we check the UK tournaments results for this year(all have used the same rules changes) we may be surprised to see which armies are finishing down there too.

Don't worry about Imperial Guard, I'll be finishing first with them at open war 10! :)

I'm not calling for changes yet, but feel that this is something that needs to be watched.
