My ticket is probably the second one GW sent to may have messed up the numbering!

So what is everyone taking? I'm bringing guard so I don't have to paint so much stuff!

My ticket is number 13.

I had a call from Andy, the organiser of the event:

Apparently there hasn't been enough uptake of mordheim (5 tickets) so he's had to cancel that system. He called me because he thought I was playing - (gw mail order had sent me a mordheim ticket by mistake, but replaced it for an Epic one)

Anyway, he told me there where 14 Epic players. He was saying he didn't think the uptake was that great, I told him that 14 was pretty respectable for the normal epic scene.

I Didn't ask him how many Warmaster players where going but I guess WHW is going to be less than crowded this weekend...

Hmmmm, there is another nail in coffin then....pitty, but not that unexpected when you look at the price/time constraint/score system.

Yes, did you suggest he wonders why? :) 20 or so seems a more normal number!

10 - 20 is about the range. Open War is usually around 16 maybe more this year. 14 ain't bad, but I did explain that the time constraint was the biggest factor in putting some people off (and will probably explain the number of Marine armies that will be played)

For some reason 3000 pt epic doesn't fit too well in a 2hr slot. But 2700 does.

Hopefully we can have a chat with Andy and the Events team over the weekend to discuss these points.

Andy said exactly that. This is is the first he's run an event like this. He's taken the same tournament format that is used for other GW tournaments but want's to discuss with us what improvements he can make for next year to attract more players.

I dunno why the uptake for mordheim was so slight. Possibly because there's no real national tournament scene for that game? An advertisment on the SG forum and various mordheim boards might have been an idea! 40k and Warhammer tournaments sell themselves, I guess, so you've got to push a little further for SG

Congratulations to Dave on another tournament win

1 Dave Thomas Marines
2 Steve Gullick Black Legion
3 Nick Rice Marines
4 Matt Arnold Marines

For my part I had 3 wins vs Alan Saunders beautifully painted Marines, Nick Rice's Reaver lead Marines and Kevin Botts best painted winning Chaos, and 3 draws vs Tims Freeks, Daves Marines and Nick again.

I especially enjoyed a really hard fought game against Tim - 0-0 after 4 turns

GW listened to feedback and increased gametime to 2 and a half hours so that wasn't an issue. From what Andy Joyce (the organiser) said basically Brian (old organiser) left no feedback or information from previous years so Andy started from scratch with little knowledge of Epic. He seemed quite positive to the event continuing next year and moving towards a score system more suitable to epic.

For my part I had a really enjoyable, and tireing, weekend with 5 really fun and close-fought games - its just a pity the events of my last game left a bad taste and tainted my weekend.

I would like to add my thanks to everyone that attended and the organizers. It was probaly the most hard fought tournament I have attended and has left me more drained than ever before.

I would especially like to thank my opponents Dave, Joe, Steve, Nick, Kev and Matt, who in most cases effectively slaughtered whole swaves of my Speed Freaks. Whilst they were all great games, game of the tournament had to be against Kev and his Black Legion where his Chosen took on over half of my army and broke it whilst mainly making there RA saves, oh yes I now hate Invunlerable Saves. My salvation came as we finished with no goals after the third turn and all of my remaining army rallied. We then scambled to try and hold ground grab objectives and break the surviving formations. A lone Obliterator managed to contest an objective in my half of the table resulting in us having one goal each and a draw.

With only a five minute turnaround to the final game both Kev and I were shattered and then subsequently lost. Sorry Matt that I couldn't give you a better game, but next time I can go for revenge...

Just to add to Steve's post:

5. Kevin Bott - BL
6. Tim Hunt - Speed Freaks

So the top five places were held by either Marines or BL. Changes to the rules have helped these armies too much?
