I think painting should be part of the scores and not a token part either. If this changes we will be attracting the wrong kind of people and armies to the tournaments.

Then by your definition I should stop attending tournament as I hate painting with a passion and only paint when I have to.

Am working on the entire list - will update the championship shortly. But also think I noticed a discrepancy in the scoring for rounds 3&4.

And I don't understand the painting scores at all - 3x 37, 3x 35, 6x 34, 1x 30 and my sympathies Andy. Because there are 0.5 points missing from three scores and the other discrepancies, I just think your score got omitted in error - but with even 34 points, you would have got 4th.

I'm fairly sure both rob lane and andy's scores are mistakes.

The system used seemed to be a checklist were you got 25pts for having a painted army (sure andy had this when he and I were discussing the harsh marking of his list).

After that you got +3pts for basing, coherency, something else I cant remember, high quality and then very high quality.

Giving possible scores of 25, 28, 31, 34, 37, 40

No army got the very high quality score (but it is apparently reserved for a very few armies in the whole tourni)

So where 0, 30 or even 35 came from only the mysterious inner workings of the WPS will know.

Thinking about it maybe you got a -2 for having an army not entirely painted by yourself which would only leave the mystery of rob's 30 - assuming andy's score was just a mistake in not entering his base 25pts

How did TRC manage to get 34.6 on the sports score,I thought the sports scores were done in whole points ?.

And how did I get less than the marks I have always got previously? :)

Anyway thats simple enough. Its done like this - 5 games at 0-10 each game, minus the highest and lowest, divided by 30 and times by 40!

So 10, 8, 8 gives 34.6 (reacuring).

Right,

Andy got no points because aparently he had a few models undercoated only. This means that you get zero painting points, even if it's only one model not painted.

I've had a lot of experience of WFB tournament where painting / no painting has occured and the difference has been staggering. It's just not the same when you play a game a against a undercoated / bits broken / bits missing army. Painting is as much of the hobby as the gaming is!

What should normally happen is if you have a fully painted army (3 colours min) you get "X" points and then if you have a really nicely painted army you get "+5pts" and then a WOW army gets an additional "+5pts".

Also the thing with the scores. Remember this is the club challenge and all scores have to be balanced for all game systems to produce the winning club. So for example we use a 32pt system, bloodbowl win 2-0, 3-0 and WFB use a 3,000pts system. They all have to balance so each game has the game amount of status to a clubs score ... don't ask me how they do it!

Also I've asked if i can judge painting next year (might ask help from Joe and Rob)

Cheers

I find it interesting that Guard are doing so poorly at the moment. Highest Steel Legion 8th....

Thanks to all my opponents for the five great games that I had. I have never felt so drained after a tournament as I did on Monday.

It was a great weekend and I am looking forward to London in four weeks time.

Well, none of my models were undercoated only.  My scouts had been sprayed black, then painted dark angels green, then washed black.  I had not got round to drybrushing the base, so I suppose technically they only had two colours on them.

I can't complain too much I suppose, the person who wrote this painting marking system for the WPS was....... me.  Oh well.

What really narks me though was that I think overall my army looked better than some other peoples.

I suppose I should have "forgotten" to put my scouts on the table when they were marking the painting.   ???

Interesting also that all the armies in the top third where from epic supplements, and non from the core 3 from the main rulebook.

Though I suppose Andy H's Space Marines should be in there.

Fearless Obliterators & I was playing them ?:p

More seriously things have changed since this was the all conquering list. We are now playing with more terraine, (the correct number) than we ever have before so long ranged direct fire weapons are not as effective. The change to the skimmer rules and line of sight have also made a difference. The changes in engagements have restricted the use of rough-riders and sentinels in assaults. Also more artillery, the bane of this type of army, is being used. Joe will be able to testify what he did to my mechanised company with his Void Spinners.

As with all things change is a good thing and it looks like I will have to change my list to take into account the above.

Next I expect to see my Speed Freaks lose ?:O
