I've never been a fan of the Squat name TBH.

I think the closest sucessful comparison is Space Elves, or Eldar.
'Eldar' has the obvious connection to 'elf' but it subtly different enough to stand out on originality. It's also a made-up noun, it's unique.

The Space Dwarves never got that treatment. 'Squat' is bluntly a descriptive of what they are, quite derogatory as well. It's a slang term, said by non-Space Dwarves behind their backs.
In that regard it's good, it gives the fictional species depth, implies it's been around long enough for other species to develop terms for them.

Back to Eldar, they could be pixies, pointy ears, etc.

The problem comes when it's used as an official term by the species itself.
Codex: Pointy Ears? Not quite as catchy.

That's the problem with 'Squats'. Having Demiurg as their official title, with 'squats' as the slang term gives them some credibility- more than fat bikers in space.

Dwarg could work thou. It got the same partial same sound as elf and eldar. Or maybe Dwark, to not confuse with Warg. And then nor Dwark either, to not be confused with Ardwaark...

Bah, okay Eldar is original-ish (since GW just nicks everything). It's unmistakable, and it isn't a descriptive like 'squat', 'stunted', 'lanky', etc.

Had the Squats ever been properly developed no doubt they would have been renamed, but they never even had a Codex, so we're stuck with the name really.

A few more votes/notes on where to head with the Squat/Demiurg force/s would be well. It is fairly clear by now what "we all think", but the more voices the better.

And no, this poll is still not a challenge to neither epilgrim's excellent work on the Demiurg or the Xenos project. It's a help to make a decision on what to work on first.
