Well, after two years of debate, theoretical discussions and playtest, the project "The Squats: Reloaded" is finally over.

You can download it HERE and, if you're curious, you can read the 19 pages of discussion on the epic_fr forum HERE. The Codex will be updated soon with pictures for the units's datafaxes (more pictures of ScREaM's wonderful army  :)) ).

A few words about this project. It started about two years ago when I stumbled upon Jaldon's Squat army lists. Using these lists as a starting point, I then opened a new topic on the epic_fr forum with a first draft of modifications... and here we are now!

It's still very much a fan-list really, because playtest has been rather sparse due to a distinct lack of players, but we've tried to be as thourough as possible and no stone has been left unturned.   It may not be perfectly balanced (even though we hope so!), but I can say that it is at least playable.

As many French players are die-hard fans of the WH40K V2 background, we've tried to capture the feel of the SM2/TL list: an infantry core supported by powerful weapons and artillery. We've tried to reduce the special rules to a minimum (there used to be a rule for Tunnelers and a rule for the Land Train), so you'll only find 1 special rule (Stubborn) and 2 special abilities.

This version is "final" but of course there is no such thing in Epic, so if you spot any mistakes or if you feel such and such unit is too powerful, please tell me. And of course, feel free to playtest the list if you like it.

I can't check the links from work (blocked by infosec) but I am looking forward to seeing what you did.

The Summary Sheet look a bit strange with AP5+/AP6+ etc. I e AP as both.

Is the Thunderfire both stationary, 50 points and (only) AA6+?
Ok, 60cm covers a fair bit, but how to move the Grand Battery if it's included?

Oh man, I'm so stupid... I did a wild "Search and Replace" (I translated this from French) and I typed AP instead of AT...  :upside:

I'll change that right now.

Thunderfire: yes it's stationary, but it's 2xAA6+ at 60 cm. It's on par with the Siegemaster's Blitzen AA Gun (2xAA6+ instead of 1xAA5+). If you want a mobile AA platform, have a look at the Overlord.  :;):

Thanks.

And of course, I didn't do this alone: several members of the epic_fr forum helped a lot to shape the army list and profiles, Sethiel did a great job with the layout of the codex (I only added a few things right at the end of the project) and ScREaM provided us with pictures of his superb army (and should provide more soon).

All of this is in the Credits section but it doesn't hurt to repeat it here.  :))

I'll give it a thorough read when I can, but a couple of quick observations:

- the Table of Contents wasn't translated (no big deal)
- what's "Formwtions de Soutien"?
- it's "tarantula", not "tarentula"

Ooops.

Support formations. I probably forgot to translate that as well.

- it's "tarantula", not "tarentula"

Really? Well, I'll fix this too.

Thanks!

Thanks.

Re the Thunderfire. It's immobile, but I might want to move my Grand Battery. Wouldn't that be a problem?

Yes, the Overlord is certainly movable AA!

It might, but the Battery is very slow anyway (10 cm) and artillery pieces generally don't move much over the course of a game. Also, you don't have to take AA Guns with your Battery. If you take several Batteries, you can put Thunderfires in only one or two of them.

Do you think it's really a problem?

Yes it is, because now I can't move it. If it's a support formation and not an upgrade it would be totally different. If it had 10cm move there's also no such (broken) trouble.
It feels broken now. But then I am a bit to good at finding such...

Hey thanks a lot, now I can paint up some squats and use as allies for my IG!

I noticed one thing though, not sure if its a typo or not: it says the Leviathan carries 1 hearthguard or 2 warriors (etc...). Isnt the Leviathan supposed to be able to carry a lot more than 2 stands?

Post subject:  The Squats: Reloaded

Considering the general size of formations I took it that they carry two formations, but one if Exo-Armoured.

Hmmm, well "le codex" says 16 units, which means exactly as you say 2 formations. So its a typo I guess, because the english version does state 2 units.

BTW, I love the french site, its at least as good as this one, and you have some very very talented people over there. Bad thing about the language barrier and all.
