Notes Rules: This battle was fought using the Net Epic Evolution rules where the rules are based on Net Epic which is based on 2nd Edition rules. Evolution is different in that units now move AND fire all in a single activation. In addition, at the start of the game units are covered by a Fog of War which is not removed until the unit is activated during turn 1. If for any reason no units activate during turn 1, the fog is removed from all units for the start of turn 2. In addition, this game acted as a playtest for the new points formula rules, .325 update which has since been updated again. We estimate that our forces are probably worth somewhere in the region of 6-7k points under old costings. Objectives are worth 50 points, broken unit VPs are worth 10% of their original cost. 500 points is required for victory. Mission background: The city of Glasvegas is home to Governor Mandrake who has turned traitor and declared independence from the Imperium! The Emperor begs to differ and sends an Ad Mech force with Space Marine Allies to quell the rebellion. The cunning Mandrake has an IG army loyal to him who he has instructed to crush the Ad Mech & Marines before their forces depose him... |

Imperial Guard Deployment I focussed most of my force down the left flank - Almost all infantry along with Rough Riders, Hellhounds & Stormhammers were in attendance. My artillery packed along the central flank taking cover behind buildings and industrial fixtures. On the right flank I felt I was going to struggle because while I had my Titan, Shadowsword Company and Capitol Imperialis with a Heavy Squadron inside, I only had a solitary Commissar available to capture objectives.

Ad Mech Deployment, courtesy of opponent Craigm999 I deployed my titan with the vortex missile, and multi rocket launcher on the far right to allow it a good line of sight across the open battlefield, and to provide some cover from the buildings. one assault squad mounted in Chimedons was going to make a deep push up the right flank and hopefully take the objective in the buildings in IG territory. supporting this assualt was a storm blade - to take on any armoured threats on the far right (the buildings overlooking the road could provide cover as it has relatively short ranged main weapons). one heavy infantry squad deployed in the building in their deployment zone to provide some long range cover straight down the main road. In the middle of my right flank was a portion of my armoured force, Leman Russ, another Stormblade and more Mech-Assault troops supported by ad-mech tech priests to carry out any repairs needed! Griffons were kept out of sight, and Knight lancers and Tactical Marines and Tech Guard infantry provided some fast objective grabbing along the riverside. On the right hand side of the Highway Devestator Marines and Heavy Tech Guard would infiltrate buildings, take objectives and provide fire support, the hell hounds would flush out any infantry coming from the other side thinking of doing the same! in the middle of the highway was my armoured fist, 2 squads of leman russ, a mech assault detachment and the last stormblade, a titan armed with a Quake Canon and AAA would support this push up the main road. on the far left flank Tech Guard infantry and Marine landspeeders would charge forward and grab objectives from the close quarters layout of the space port and planetary defences. Note: in the battle report there will be references to the left & right flanks. The left & right flanks will be referring to the IG point of view; therefore when the left flank is referred to in the report, this will in fact be the Ad Mech right flank and vice versa.

Note: the photos captured most of the action where kills were involved. I apologise for the quality of some of them. There were a lot to take & I was immersed in the game so even though I knew I was writing a battle report the photography was secondary to play! Turn 1: Infantry units on both sides swarmed forward, heading into buildings where possible. The Ad Mech & Space Marines had a big advantage with their fast deploying troops, capturing objectives all over the battlefield. More details on the pic descriptions, all of these are on the IG's left flank...

Turn 1: End Phase: The Ad Mech & Marines are now fully deployed and have captured three quarters of the objectives. The IG meanwhile have taken heavier casualties (though Companies mean they do not break) and are still not in position but what they lack in speed they make up for in numbers... The Vortex remains where it is. The Ad Mech and Marines have captured a massive 6 objectives for 300 points and killing the commissar earns the, an extra 10 points. The IG capture 2 objectives and earn 8 VPs for breaking a heavy platoon. AM: 310 IG: 108 |
