Battle 6 of those fought as part of my Epic War! Campaign. To find out more about the Campaign, please see this thread; http://www.taccmd.tacticalwargames.net/ ... 6&start=15 Which units were used for this battle can be found on the campaign force lists in the same thread. To help, the Marine force used was under code C98, the Eldar E3. The battle was fought on hilly terrain (F9 on Campaign Map). The Marine army was on Fortify orders and the Eldar on Charge. The Eldar player could deploy an extra 15cm forward of the standard deployment zone and would automatically have initiative on turn 1 of the battle. The Marines would have been able to set up their defences anywhere on their hlf of the board had they built any previously, but with the assault being launched during their building programme, no defences were ready in time to be used. The Marines set up within the standard deployment zone. Both sides fielded fresh armies worth 2,000 points each. To secure a win, one side must score 30VPs. Deployment: The Eldar player spread his forces across a wide spread of the board, while the Marine player placed most emphasis on the centre and right flanks, with an entire Land Raider company and two Warhounds in attendance. |

Turn 2: The assault troops launch an audacious attack upon Dark Reapers, but are cut down so swiftly that the battle is over before it has begun. Terminators manage to shot down one of the 'Reapers but it is little consolation. The Warlock continues to wreak havok on the right flank by using his Elrich Storm once again to effectively remove the remaining Warhound and two more Land Raiders from the battle. The Marines do manage to pick off a few more Wraithlord and a solitary Prism Cannon, but, unable to target the Warlock himself, they are unable to break the host. A combination of Wraithlords, Wraithguard, Prism Cannon an Grav Tanks are able to pick off several more Land Raiders, bringing the battle to a swift and devastating conclusion for the Marines. Marines: 16 VPs Eldar: 43 VPs

Seeking to further demoralise the Marines, the Eldar also break the Terminators while they are in full retreat! They have fully succeed in this respect, as the Marine player is left wondering how it all went so badly wrong! The fact that they only managed to break a single Prism Cannon is a major humiliation for the Imperium and commander in charge of the forces. Having fought so hard to get back into the war, their campaign once again seems to be in tatters... |

Some brief reflections on the battle: I really messed this battle up at the very start. I ordered my vehicles as if I were fighting a battle with standard set up (where both forces begin 80cm apart), but this was daft, I should have deployed them in open areas on FF orders. The advance orders allowed the Eldar to pummel my force from the word go. The Assault detachment attack on the Dark Reapers in turn 2 was suicidal, and I knew it to be; however, this was a desperate action launched in a vain attempt to try and steal an objective. Like everything in this battle, it didn't work out at all. Even the one good move that I made - Land Speeders catching Guardians on the hop - went badly wrong. With +3 to my rolls for CAF I should have easily dominated that battle. Not so, 4 out of 5 Land Speeders died in CC! Some days nothing goes right for you at all! PS I cannot express how much I hate Eldar Warlocks these days. Eldrich Storms have been making my life a misery! |
