Skitarii - fail to activate the minorus Plasma even with SC reroll
Harlequins - fail to activate the Bombers and stand down
Skitarii - Minorus with Plasma distuctor opens up on a storm serpent for 2DC breaking it

Harlequins - Fail to activate BTS for engage with the reroll so double and take a blast
Skitarii - Doubled the minorus and gave a blast to the storm serpent
Harlequins - Bombers hammered the robots on the blitz breaking them
Skitarii - Fail to activated the BTS for a double to protect the Blitz (Laughing god for the win)

The Laughing God certainly had an impact on this game by giving my formations -1 to activate. When you have 2+ to begin with that can mean 4+ to activate with blast markers... Still, I think it was fairly OK as the Harlequins has to work to keep him in play.

Not a huge fan of this version of the Veil of Tears ability, but I guess it does its job. Would be nice to be able to "switch it off" sometimes tho as it's not always helpful. While it's certainly sporting of the Harlequins to not attack their paralyzed opponents, it's kind of odd as well. Also still think it ought to be called something else than Veil of Tears, as I think there are other Shadowseer powers that would better represent it. Being able to "go back" into the Webway proved to be something of a double-edged sword, which I like.

Hi guys, and thanks for taking the Harlequins for a spin.

It seems that I must make the list definitions clearer; the intention is either
  • For the Harlequins to lead the army as a “Grand Masque”, with Cegorach and optionally a Grand Harlequin as the SC;
  • OR for the other Eldar list to lead the army with the Avatar and optionally the Autarch (or equivalent SC), using a few Harlequin formations as ‘allies’.
The confusion here is that there are not enough Harlequin formations to be a Grand Masque, so Cegorach and the Great Harlequin should not be used, and consequently the Webgate is not free.

The list does show the dilemma faced by the Eldar over the choice of formations to use when including Harlie formations. Storm Serpents do deliver big assaults, providing they are not destroyed too quickly. But they are hard to protect given the lack of other support.

Personally I think 2-3 Harlequin formations is the ideal number at 3K, allowing a greater number of other formations. I would also drop the Venoms from the Mimes (allowing them to teleport), drop the Wraithship and the Support weapon platforms from the Guardians, giving another Guardian and Ranger formation, or with a little more shuffling some Night Spinners etc.

The report was great, but raised some questions over the details of particular actions
  • The Wraithship was not apparently used at all. Was this an oversight?

  • In the first round, Jetbikes are mentioned which are not in the list;
    • Was this actually the Harlequin troupe with a troupe leader?
    • When they lost the assault, did they withdraw back into the Webway or move elsewhere on the battlefield?
    • Apparently they engaged a second time in the first turn(???) wiping themselves out. Is there a mis-identification here somewhere?

  • The Shadowseer troupe apparently lost the engagement with the Praetorians.
    • Where did they withdraw to?
    • What did they do in turn 2, did they engage the former Gorgan (Skitarii)
    • What did they do in turn three?
    • More importantly, how did you find the Shadowseer? Did you try to use him in support?

  • Although technically illegal, you did use Cegorach
    • Did you reposition it each turn?
    • What effect did it have on the game in each turn, on both sides?
    • The Avatar is listed but not apparently used. Was that intentional or an oversight?

Hey Ginger,

Thanks heaps for reading and yeah definitely an my bad on my part not reading the army list close enough. I see now you need more harlequins the Allies to be a harlequin list.

I re posted the list which was also my bad, we had a chat before the game and we decided i should swap a troop for some harlequin jet bikes just forgot to update my log sheet.

It hit nothing i must have missed writing it down. Was trying to scare my opponent into getting out of the deployment to risk the double pie plate placing blasts on a 2+ army.

My bad on writing the report. They won the assault. I just had to assault them again to get rid of the fearless screen. The first attempt i got splatted and lost all my jet bikes.

yeah back to my bad on not putting in the right list.

not really they are pretty crap at support.

yeah just tried to get him hugging as much stuff as possible to activate on a 3+

He forced a couple of failed activations. 1 at the start of the game with a minorus plasma which helped alot.

Farseer died. war hounds unloaded on them even in cover killed half the formation and the farseer being 1 of them.

Ill do my best to get another game in with a legal list :D

Ahh. That makes more sense. Thanks.
But I think the list is now 1975. So if you drop the Wraithship and shuffle the points a bit, you could take another Promenade of Jetbikes, which would make the Army a Grand Masque with Biel Tan allies (so no Avatar) and legal. . . :D

Alternatively (since I know you have used them in the past) you could try Dark Eldar with Harlies. . .

One final thought; you did realise that the Shadowseer has farsight, so can call the Avatar when the Harlequins are used as an ally to another Eldar race . . . ;)

The Avatar isn't tied to Farsight tho, but to the Farseer unit.

I was going to do up a army builder file but i wasnt sure which Dark Eldar list i should be attaching it too. I could run it with the UK Dark Eldar i guess?

As to which DE to use, that is your choice. Indeed the original intention of the Harlequin list was that any Eldar list could be used.

Ahh, that list.
Well, since this is a ‘friendly’ and both lists are still ‘developmental’ I see no particular problem.
And Norto may well have other contacts with Jim outside TacComs.
And the results may well inform decisions about that list.
