Post subject:  Black Legion vs Scions of Iron 3K
So, got another game in on Vassal. This time against forum member Argol.

He decided to use Scions of Iron with the following NDC suggestions:

Predator Destructor autocannons gets 2 shots.

I took Black legion and tried the following NDC suggestions:

Hellblades weapons goes to 30cm but AA is reduced to 6+
Flamers get 1 3+FF attack.

TURN 1: bLACK LEGION WINS INITIATIVE.

BL1.1: Spaceship activates and OB-plate lands straight on BTS-tacticals killing SC-land raider and 1 marine stand (3BM). Pinpoint attack hits warhound next to BTS-tacticals, strips both shields and does 1DC (2BM). Dreadclaw full of chosen lands in front of same Warhound.
BL1.2: Chosen from dreadclaw summons 3 demons and then retains initiative. They then engage the warhound killing it for no losses.
SoI1.1: Thunderhawk ground attacks garrisoned chosen killing 2 stands and 1 rhino, breaking them.
BL1.3: Hellblades ground attacks garrisoned scouts for 1BM.
SoI1.2: Thunderbolts intercept hellblades and kills 2 of them (3BM).
BL1.4: Feral titan advances and fires on garrisoned scouts for 1BM.
SoI1.3: Garrisoned scouts marshalls (clears 1 BM only) and moves into buildings.
BL1.5: Havocs doubles forward behind forest.
SoI1.4: Tacticals advances and fires on chosen that arrived in dreadclaws. 2stands ar killed and the formation breaks.
BL1.6: Feral doubles forward and fires on garrisoned scouts in buildings killing 1 (2BM).
SoI1.5: TActicals doubles to center of the board and fires on Feral stripping 2 shields (1BM).
BL1.7: Retinue by BL blitz goes on OW.
SoI1.6: Warhound advances and fires on Feral doing 1dc breaking it.
BL1.8: Retinue doubles forward and fires on garrisoned scouts for 1BM.
SoI1.7: Scouts behind centre mountain doubles forward and fires on broken chosen wiping them out.
BL1.9: Retinue doublesforward and fires on scouts in forest killing 1 stand (2BM).
SoI1.8: Heavy tacticals doubles forward and fires on Havocs for 1BM.
SoI1.9: Heavy tacticals doubles forward and fires on Havocs for 1BM.

END PHASE:
Chosen rallies.
Feral titan rallies.

TURN 2: Scions of Iron wins initiative.

SoI2.1: Heavy tacticals sustains on havocs killing 2 stands (3BM).
SoI2.2: Scouts retains and doubles. Fires on Havocs killing 1 rhino and breaks the formation.
BL2.1: Feral titan doubles and fires on Warhound doing 1dc (2BM).
BL2.2: Second Feral retains and doubles in front of Warhound and fires on it breaking it.
SoI2.3: Tacticals sustain on retinue killing 3 rhinos (4BM).
SoI2.4: Thunderbolts retain and ground atatcks same retinue killing 2 stands and breaks the formation.
BL2.3: Retinue by BL blitz advances up on hill in front of them and fires on scouts killing 1 stand (2BM).
BL2.4: retinue retains, summons 6 demons and engages the same scouts wiping them out for the loss of 1 stand.
SoI2.5: Scouts in buildings Marshall and fires on Feral titan with razorback and kills it (whaaaaaat??!!)
BL2.6: Chosen near BL blitz marshalls and moves closer to BL blitz.
SoI2.6: Thunderhawk ground attacks retinue killing 1 stand and 2 rhinos (4BM).
SoI2.7: Heavy tacticals doubles and fires on Feral for 1BM.
SoI2.8: Tacticals near SoI blitz goes on OW.

END PHASE:

Havocs rallies.
Warhound fails to rally.
Retinue rallies.

Terminators teleport in right next to Tacticals near SoI blitz.
Turn 3: Black Legion wins initiative.

BL3.1: Terminators summons 4 demons and engages tacticals. 2 terminators are lost in the fight but the whole tactical formation is wiped out and BL can claim the BTS objective.
BL3.2: Feral retains and doubles to SoI blitz and fires on scouts holding it for 1BM.
SoI3.1: Tacticals doubles and fires on retinue for 1BM.
SoI3.2: Heavy tacticals retains and engages same retinue wiping them out for the loss of 1 land raider (1BM).
BL3.3: Retinue engages scouts killing 4 stands for the loss of a sorcerer lord (1BM). The retunue wins the combat.
BL3.4: Retubue near BL blitz retains, summons 3 demons and engages heavy tacticals. The only manage to kill 1 land raider and 1 stand and get completly wiped out in the process giving the Scions the BTS Objective (W to the T to the maddafakking F???!!!)
SoI3.3: Thunderbolts stand down.
BL3.5: Havocs doubles and fires on heavy tacticals for 1BM.
BL3.6: Chosen by BL blitz retains and goes on OW.
SoI3.4: Thunderhawk ground attacks retinue contesting right most T&H objective killing 1 stand and 1 rhino breaking them.
SoI3.5: Heavy tacticals marches to right most objective and claims it.

Game is called and Scions of Iron win 2-1 (T&H and BTS to BTS) in Turn3.

Damn. Why didn't i play safe with my BTS-retinue and engage the nearest retinue??!! I got greedy and went for a big gamble. It backfired big time and i lost the game because of it.

Flamers at 1 3+ atatck feels way more ok, not crazy amount of dice beiong rolled in each engagment. I think this change is a great one and a no-brainer.
Hellblades at 30cm range helped me to hit stuff withut being hit by ground AA. But then they died quickly from thunderbolts so I didn't get to try them out more.

Predator destuctors getting 2 shots on their autocannon was really scary when facing Argols list. He had a few and their 4 shots each put some hurt on my traitor marines. I really like the change though because now predator destructors really feels like a unit thats woth to take! A real Inf killer AND a FF3+ value makes it a good choice.

Hopefully Argol will give his thoughts too.

Hey that's a pretty boss map. Mind shooting me a vsav on some of these maps you're making so I can add them to the Vassal pre-made maps archive? It'd be a great resource

Really? I must have forgotten it. TBF, Apoc does most of the work on the premade maps and I do the fiddly bits with the module/module extensions :)

oh yeah because we keep a set of premade ones around. It really helps people out I feel. let's be honest, the hardest part of EA Vassal is making interesting maps (we'll.. after the whole "Vassal doesn't follow the underlying OS gestures" but I digress :D )

Anything neat you make, sling it our way! AWESOME! It's as easy as simply using the SAVE GAME and sending the vsav file. (that's actually how Apoc and I make them, new empty game and set up terrain then save)
