Played a 4k Iron Hands dread heavy test game today vs Steel Legion. There may have been some slight proxying: ![]() Bionics was taken as a 50pt upgrade to make an infantry formation 3+ armour. Iron clads used the stats in the IH list first post. T1 marines> spaceship. barrage comes in middle of short table edge, kills 1 infantry from RHQ, wipes manticores, kills 2 sentinels (Breaks), 1 BM on russ RHQ drop pods (i forgot to plot 2 drops, so both came in at same point in end half of long edge) first deathwind kills 5 infantry in flank company and 1 sentinel, second kills 5 infantry and a commisar in 2nd inf coy, breaks sentinels, kills a deathstrike (breaks), blast marker on SHT coy, kills another sentinel via BM from the already broken sentinels. ![]() marines> dreadnoughts sustain fire on hydras on long flank and wipe them out guard> SHT coy singles up and turns to blast the second dread drop, kills 3, breaking marines> air assault dreads hit the unbroken but heaviy damaged inf coy intermingled with warhound. Thawk dies to a crit and 1 dread dies, but marines still win, leaving 1 stand of infantry left to break with warhound and killing a broken sentinel via BM from being within 15cm. warhound breaks foward to mid table ![]() guard> tank coy singles up and blasts the 2nd lot of drop dreadnoughts, killing 3, breaking ![]() marines> scout run and infiltrate firefight up to wipe out 2 broken sentinels, but lose 1 scout in the assault guard> warhound doubles and wipes out the last dread from 1 of the drop dread formations marines> iron clad dreads air assault right into the back of the tank coy in an attempt to clip, but only 2 are left out after counter charge. only 1 russ and 1 regular dread die in hits, giving marine +1 in rolloff, who win by 2, breaking tank coy. Last deathstrike wipes out, taking a BM from being within 15cm ![]() guard> RHQ assaults the dreads that just broke the tank coy. only kill to hits was 1 guard stan via thawk support fire, but guard win by 3 and dreads break + hackdowns. marines> iron hands clan doubles up into some ruins in guard half and kills a broken russ with a BM plink guard> tbolts strafe dreadnoughts and manage to pop a venerable, hacking down the last ironclad marines> remember they can claim crossfire off a landed thawk to bring the lander+preds in the shoot the broken russ with 14 las dice and 1 hunter missile. All russ die, giving BTS. ![]() guard> hydras on short flank double up and kill a tactical from the iron hand clan marines> scouts double and blast marker hydras with their lazerback guard> tbolts try to kill a solo dread but fail marines> thawk scoops up the 3 unbroken dreads from the intermingle assault marines> stormtalons attack hydras, lose 1 to flack but kill 1 back, breaking hydras marines> stormtalons kill another hydra via BM plink marines> do some other messing about with remaining whatever it was end of t1 before rallies ![]() guard player called the game as iron hand win of the 16 dreads deployed via pod and air in t1, only 4 survived. guard lost i think 5 activation wiped out and 4 broken in t1, of which only the warhound rallied for t2 we had loads of time so played a fast guard vs titan game in which i managed to fail to fire my deathstrikes with SC re-roll in t1, going on to lose on points at 0–0 t4 with the BTS warlord aggravatingly hanging on with 1 DC and no shields ![]() |

overall: in terms of the main game it was just a marine air assault list that worked out, would have been the same result if using codex with devs and terminator not dreads. tactical clans are overpriced by at least 25pts. the IH devs you get are kinda meh and even with the free vet sgt there's no way its worth 50pts over regular tacticals. Solutions might be to use regular devs not IH devs. reduce by 25pt, or maybe add a free razorback (but that's then lost if you pod, but why would you pod when there are 200pt dreads to pod). Dreads are … never going to be as good as terminators. Following a very destructive barrage and deathwind beach head they did a lot of damage, then got smashed in return. fair enough? hard to judge points. No where near as good as terminators, but also a very cheap drop pod deathwind formation dreads might need to pay an extra cost to pod. 200pts regular then + pod cost? |

that's a harsh set of randoms to all come up terrible for the guard. Some days you're the dog; Others the fire-hydrant I had long kicked around the idea of giving a free razorback as the IH are known in the fluff to love them. Something about "if they could they'd only use them to transport their marines". Sure losing it for alternate transport sucks but such is free and flexible deployment. Another thing I had planed for the next revision for then wayback was to try and give the devs a third shot with a plasma gun. Basically that gave them long range AT, a long range AP, and then an additional utility up close. Failing that I had planed to compensate with a price drop on clans to again, make them more attractive over the specialist units. Seems that you're feeling something similar here is needed. |

Nice report, really impressive to see that much destruction on a drop. And those are some gorgeous paint jobs to complement your meeples! |
