Yeah I know! Trying to be too kunning. My FB's smashed him last time so figured he'd load up on AA this time, which he did. And I'd just go for almost complete ground force and the AA would be ineffective. Stupid idea, should have just taken even more FB's! ;D

That hurt - well done to the Tau for an effective battle plan

Thanks for the report Markconz.

Did you guys feel the Tau OTT or was it just the tactics combined with LV status causing the rout?

Cheers, for myself, too difficult to say based on one game.

From me, the Tau plan came together pretty well. Reinforced scout marker-light screen.
Longer range firepower deployed in behind. Plenty of AA cover (not needed).
Not enough tanks (Hammerheads) converted/painted yet for fully armoured formations.

With lots of light vehicle unit in the Ork Speed Freak Hordes every fire mission was perfectly adapted to causing damage. My Tau forces often run into problems with too much AP fire and not enough AT/MW/TK firepower. No worries about that here.

We both had a laugh about the Sentry Drone Turrets before the game. Deployed them spread out, as many as possible in cover (could not put them in the buildings, and the craters were not cover for vehicles, . . . ). They took more than a couple of enemy activations to render them incapacitated. Fearless and out of sight stopped them from being completely wiped out. Orks not so good at shooting so a little more survivable than against other armies perhaps. They fired once (twice?) and certainly facilitated long range markerlit shooting.

My Scorpionfish are scratch built Orcas with extra missile batteries strapped on. Basically a Skyray turret on the top and some heavy box launchers above/beside the forward engines.

Pretty much perfect setup for the Xar'Ka Mechanised Infantry Strike Group. Hard to tell if over the top.

My research (such as it is - type into Google) suggests that the Piranha TX-42 only has a Fusion Blaster or Rail Rifiles or . . . (but not both).
Quote:
Weapons: Each TX-42 is armed with twin-link fusion blasters. All TX-42’s are equipped with a targeting array.
Options: A TX-42 may replace its fusion blasters with twin-linked missile pods for free, or twin-linked plasma rifles for +12 pts, or twin-linked rail rifles for +10 pts.
A TX-42 may take the following vehicle upgrades from Codex Tau Empire: sensor spines, blacksun filter, flechette discharger, decoy launchers, disruption pod, seeker missiles.

Flechette dischargers (heavy close AP fire?) and/or perhaps seeker missiles might be useful from that list. Not sure how the targeting array fits into Epic. Do you have another source for this Piranha variant?
