A very close game from Coach's Legendary Basement (I'm surprised I've made it out alive again...) Start of Game Start of Game Blood Claws make planetfall and lay a BM on a Retinue. The Long Fangs and Grey Hunters do the same, taking a unit of bikes down to 3 units thanks to the barrage and poor saves. The Blood Claws engage, 2-1. The Rhinos beat a hasty retreat! Havocs double and catch two grety hunters in a crossfire. The Retinue engages and wipes them out. Long Fangs hit them and take out two Rhinos. Chosen sustain and lay a BM on the Speeders. Sky Claws march. A Retinue doubles and takes out a Speeder. The Speeders attempt to advance, fail and move. Hellblades come in and knock out two, breaking them. A Great Company doubles and break the Havocs (the Whirlwinds hit them before hand I believe). Hellblades take out the Long Fang out of cover. Bikes double up and lay a BM on the chosen. The Long Fangs double.

Turn 2 Turn 2 The BTS teleport in with no BMs. A Retinue doubles up and lays a BM on the Great Company. The BTS summons and goes in with a greater and two daemonic beasts. The Bloodthirster crits and the Daemons and an Oblit go down, Chaos is still up by 4 in kills. Chaos gets BTS. Long Fangs sustain and break the retinue. The Chosen sustain and take out a Rhino in the Long Fangs. The Rhinos marshal and roll double 1s... The Long Fangs sustain and take out a Terminator (forget a BM I think). Hellblades fail. The Skyclaws engage the Terminators. They're wiped out and Chaos suffers no losses. Hellblades stand down. Bikes sustain on the Terminators I think. Havocs doubl and lay a BM on the Long Fangss. Whirlwinds put the hurt on a retinue. Bikes march. Speeders break the Havocs. The Blood Fangs grab the Blitz.

Turn 3 Turn 3 Bikes engage the Long Fangs. They wipe them out. Whirlwinds hit the Retinue and slag their rides. Hellblades take out three bikes. Long Fangs pound the Retinue again. The bikes attempt to marshal, fail and move. Hellblades fail. Land Speeders double to deny T&H, the Rhinos advance. The Blood Fangs go on overwatch. The retinue with no rhinos marshals. The Chosen double to grab DTF and break the bikes.

Turn 4 Whirlwinds kill a Rhino and lay a BM on the Havocs. Land Speeders break the Havocs. Hellblades break the bikes. Long Fangs double to contest. Hellblades break the Speeders. Bloodclaws march to content both. Retinue doubles to lay a BM on the Long Fangs. Chosen double and lay a BM on the Blood Fangs. Rhinos enage the Long Fangs and die horribly. End of Game, we go to points End of Game

Coach's drop went well for him, and my Terminators coming in BM free and then getting strategy even things out. We went to points in the end. We didn't add things up but it looked like Chaos won it given what was left of the Wolves.

Did Coach get to use Pack Mentality during that Terminator assault to bring in the Long Fangs for numbers and the extra FF? What do you guys feel about the Space Wolves as a list?

He thought about it, but in the end opted to have the additional activations. He got the FF anyway as support and neither the Long Fangs nor the Bikes broke when the BTS went down, they just took a BM. Commander is rarely used in our group, I think I've used it twice since I started playing. Even without the risk of intermingling I don't think I'd use Pack Mentality any more frequently. Activation count is king for my Marines. Stat-wise I'm not fan of the FF reduction of the Blood Claws, Skyclaws and Swiftclaws. They're still Marines armed with Bolt Pistols/Twin Bolters. Same goes for the Weapon abstraction on the Long Fangs, what about Twin Missile Launcher and a Twin Lascannon? Cost-wise, I don't think the THawk/LC price bumps are needed. Other than that I think the list is pretty fluffly. Bigger formations with some untrained bloodclaws mixed in. I think I've played against it 3-5 times now.

Thanks for the feedback Dave. I'm going to give the Long Fangs "Missile Launchers & Lascannons" as a weapon line description rather than "Mixed Heavy weapons." It's a little less abstract but keeps the abstraction for shooting purposes. Some felt the "Twin" description might be confusing. The Blood Claws are toned down due to their "newness" in battle thus giving them a bit of a "drawback" and to help avoid pricing them out of the list. The pricings of the TH/LC were written in because of the Air Assault power of the list given all infantry are 3+ CC.
