Better late then never. I've got two more batreps in backlog, hoping to post them today or tomorrow. This was a 2-0 win for the Guard, with T&H and Blitz. Three Swarms and the BTS managed to come in turn 1, but a failed rally in the second turn and the other swarm failing to come meant the Tyranid rear guard couldn't stop the Vultures from grabbing the win. Tyranids Code: 495 - Medium Mycetic Swarm Hive Tyrant, 2 Warriors, 8 Termagants, 4 Hormagaunts, 2 Carnifex 285 - Small Mycetic Swarm 2 Warriors, 4 Termagants, 2 Hormagaunts, 1 Zoanthrope 285 - Small Mycetic Swarm 2 Warriors, 4 Termagants, 2 Hormagaunts, 1 Zoanthrope 285 - Small Mycetic Swarm 2 Warriors, 4 Termagants, 2 Hormagaunts, 1 Zoanthrope 285 - Small Mycetic Swarm 2 Warriors, 4 Termagants, 2 Hormagaunts, 1 Zoanthrope 285 - Small Mycetic Swarm 2 Warriors, 4 Termagants, 2 Hormagaunts, 1 Zoanthrope 200 - Lictors 275 - Harridan 4 Gargoyles 300 - Biovores 300 - Trygons 2995/10 Imperial Guard Code: 500 - Regimental HQ

Start of Game The BTS lands on the Guard's right flank, they take Overwatch from the Guardsmen in cover. They engage the Storm Troopers. 7 go down with 1 Warrior. The Commissar withdraws. The Biovores sustain on the Company in the rubble, hitting 4 times. I missed two activations here, I believe a unit of Basilisks attempted to sustain, failed and fired on the BTS and the Harridan doubled up and took out a Sentinel. The Swarm pictured then landed. It engaged the sentinels and took one out for the loss of a gaunt. The last Sentinel was hacked down. Basilisks hit the Biovores and take one out. Another swarm lands and engages the Sentinels. Two gaunts and 3 sentinels go down. The last sentinel is hacked down. The Tbolts straffe the Swarm in the woods and lay a BM. Another swarm lands and engages the Guardsmen in cover. Both Warriors and 3 gaunts go down with 3 guardsmen. The remaining gaunts falls back to the Swarm in cover to be absorbed. The Vultures advance on the Harridan and kill her outright. The BTS doubles and lays into the Swarm in cover, laying a BM. The Hydra go on overwatch, the Rough Riders march to screen. |

Turn 2 Turn 2 The Lictors teleport in and engage the Rough Riders. Four go down for a Lictor. The Lictors ZoC to be annoying. The Trygons engage the Guardsmen in Cover, the Hydra takes out one with Overwatch. The rest of the Guardsmen take out one, while the HQ another with support. The Basilisks engage the Lictors. One goes down, they fight again... And wipe them out. The Biovores sustain on the Guardsmen in the rubble again. The Swarm in cover marshalls and respawns the brood from the absorbed formation. The Vultures double on the Biovores and take two out. The Swarm in the woods engages the Guardsmen in rubble. Two guardsmen and three brood go down. The Guardsmen stand strong and throw the bugs back to the woods. The Basilisks sustain ont the BTS and take out some brood. The BTS engages the Basilisks and wipe them out. The Guardsmen in the buildings marshall. The Tbolts fail to activate. The HQ goes on overwatch. |

Turn 3 Turn 3 The BTS engages the Basilisks. They wipe them out and break the Storm Troopers for the loss of a gaunt and Carnifex. The Hydra deny them Blitz and take out another gaunt. The Vultures advance for the win after the Biovores sustain on them. End of Game |

I didn't realise that you could spawn back the losses from an absorbed swarm - I thought that that swarm no longer existed once it had be absorbed. |

It doesn't for the purposes of victory conditions/tie break, but there's a note in Synapse Swarms about spawning back the absorbed formation's brood. |

oh. Seems a bit odd. What's the rationale behind it? |

It's a way to represent an endless horde of bugs without an endless horde of models? It's a halfway point between not allowing this, and spawn where you like. Since you don't have the flexibility to throw bugs between swarms I thought it would be an utter nerf to not allow the brood to be able to be spawned back once its synapse is gone. From our playtests we haven't found it abusive. While the absorbing formation gets the potential for extra units, spawning them back usually means sitting put with a marshal. |

I should have been clearer - I meant it seems odd more from the "synapse are tied to spawning, so when they're dead losses can't be spawned back, but when the remnants are absorbed, they can" point of view, than a criticism. |

Spawning being tied to the Synapse Creatures helps to abstractly represent synapse control. Without them brood creatures revert to their animistic tendencies, so any units on the outskirts of the swarm are more likely to remain there then if a Synapse Creature is around and compelling them to join up with the rest of the swarm. |
