Hey there!

Got in my first playtest of Tyranids v9.2... and the random draw went to... Biel-Tan Eldar... BLOODY HELL!

Eldar in almost any form are probably the toughest force for Tyranids to face... I had my work cut out for me!

Won't be able to post the report this evening, but I will give you a special treat...

Great armies, Chroma. At first I thought you were a little short on activations for 5000 points, but then I figured it was the recommended handicap for Tyranids vs Eldar :D

Will be following this with interest, since my Nids are waiting for their first 9.2 battle.

What is the handicap system? It looks like a 3k army for the bugs. Why is it listed as 5k?

I believe, the technical term for that is "typo"... it was two 3000 point armies... battle report to come soon!

Battlefield:

4x6; Biel-Tan chose edge deployment

Deployment:

Biel-Tan keeps Aspect Warhost 1 and Windriders 2 in the Webway, with Aspect Warhost 2 standing by in the Vampire Raider.

Tyranids kept the Lictor Swarm in reserve for teleports and writes down the secret arrival time and place for the Subterranean Swarms…

Biel-Tan has no garrisons.

Tyranids garrison the Attack Swarm far forward and the Infiltration Swarm near be Tyranid Blitz, both on overwatch.  The Genestealers are also garrisoned, sticking to cover.

Remaining deployment as shown:

Turn 1

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: Biel-Tan

SoV Green doubles, jetting forward to strike the Attack Swarm and manage to take out 3 Canifex and the Malefactor as I can’t seem to remember how to roll saves… (Reinforced armour wouldn’t have helped the Carnies here, because of the lance attacks… but I still think Carnies are weak…)  The Eldar then jump back out of sight… hit and run.

SoV Yellow does the same thing, leaping ahead to pummel the Attack Swarm… but they only kill a single Carnifex… they also jump back, to party with the other grav-tank Troupe.

Feeling that this is not yet the time for frivolity, the Revenants advance on the battered Attack Swarm… score four MW hits… and only a single save is made… the sole surviving Hive Tyrant heads back to find its mom.  (Again, I’m really sure Tyrants need reinforced armour or they just die too easily for what they represent.)

Realizing enemies are actually in range, the Synapse Node of the Infiltration Swarm sustains fire… and the falling Bile Pods catch both Swords of Vaul Troupes in a deadly shower!  Swords of Vaul Green is reduced to a single Fire Prism which high-tails it back to the Eldar Blitz.  Swords of Vaul Yellow suffers two hits, but their wraithbone armour shrug them off.

Sensing that they’re about 1mm within the striking range of anything coming out of the Wraithgate, the Genestealer Swarm marches to a better position inside a building further away.

Preparing to strike at the heart of the enemy, the members of Aspect Warhost 2 begin to bicker about which Aspect is best… and fail to notice the green light flashing in the Vampire’s cargo bay… so they continue arguing instead of performing a ground attack!

The Hive Tyrant of Assault Swarm 1 is too busying snickering over this situation to bother getting its swarm to march… so they hold, regrouping… and spawning nothing with a “snake-eyesâ€Â

Turn 2

The Lictor Swarm reveals itself lurking in the Imperial Cathedral.

Strategy Roll: Biel-Tan

Aspect Warhost 2 gets its sh!t together by deciding that there is no “bestâ€Â

Turn 3

With a loud rumbling sound, the Subterranean Swarm erupts out of the ground near the ruined Cathedral… surprise!

With a surprisingly louder sound, the Avatar appears… SURPRISE!!!

Strategy Roll: Biel-Tan

With a warcry that shakes the heavens, the Avatar engages the Subterranean Swarm… with lots of nearby support!

The Avatar scythes down 2 Raveners and the Trygon… but succumbs to 3DC of wounds before His allies can help… and, despite winning, the remaining four Raveners are broken and move away into the nearby forest.  *SIGH*

Aspect Warhost 1 attempts to avenge the fallen Avatar by initiating the standard “6mm firefightâ€Â

Nice report, Chroma !  :D

Seems you had bad luck with the dice... again.  :))

What was the impact of the 9.2 changes?

Not sure yet... still reviewing my notes...

But one thing really stood out... this may have been the first game where my opponent didn't score BTS off of my Bugs!

And, other than Carnifex saves, my dice weren't "bad", they were just "not quite enough"... *sigh*

Meaning that the LV status for TW isn't as big a problem as anticipated (I note that your swarm composition helped a lot in that regard : of course it would have been easier to kill your TW had they been in all-Infantry swarms).

Or... meaning your opponent was confident he could win the game without the BTS objective.  :p

Biel-Tan 4 (Blitz, BTS, DTF, TSNP) vs Tyranids 0 (none) – Significant Biel-Tan Victory!
Emphasis added.

Uhm, is this some weird Tyranid thing where you can score and NOT score BTS simultaneously?  :oo:  Schrodinger's cat is purring in my head.
