Well as I've neglected this section of the site for far too long and there has been some comments made about reports to support statements Pulsar and I are planning a couple of games today.
So here goes:

Deployment:

Marine Setup (left of picture):

Blitzkrieg on left flank. Objective in front of blitzkrieg. Objective next to road in centre.

1: Crusaders with Hunter on left flank upon raised road.

2: Crusaders with Landraiders and Supreme Commander on far Right Flank.

3: Landspeeders mid-left flank behind rubble.

Guard Setup (right of picture):

Blitzkrieg in centre. Objective on far right near road. Objective just to right of cathedral in centre.

4: Stormhammers on far left flank.

5: Leman Russ to left of Blitzkrieg.

6: Shadowswords besides Blitzkrieg.

7: StormBlades in centre in front of Blitzkrieg.

8: Mechanized Platoon to right of Stormblades.

9: Stormtroopers garrisoned beside road on right flank.


Red splots are objectives. Green areas are ruins/rubble. Blue are buildings and roads are obvious.

Turn 1:

Marines win initiative.

Marines Thunderhawk CAS ground attacks Shadowsword 1, despite valiant AA fire taking a DC from the Thunderhawk a critical hit vapourised the unsuspecting shadowsword. (Pulsar does a little dance, high on the fact that action one has destroyed a dreaded Shadowsword!)

Seeing it's neighbours demise Shadowsword 2 immediately went on overwatch!

The Crusader squad on the marines left flank roars into action, charging down the road into the overwatch fire of the Stormtrooper's Valkyrie, but surviving the maelstrom with just 2 blast markers and retaliating by destroying a Stormtrooper and a Valkyrie.

The Guard look to consolidate their position and maneuver the Mech Platoon into the central city ruins.



From beyond the horizon two thunderhawk transporters plough through the skies, disgourging their cargo of Crusaders directly behind the Stormhammers, failing any damage they only manage to place a blast marker.
With Astartes precision they retain the surprise and yet another Thunderhawk slams to the ground in front of the beleaguered Stormhammers, sprinting from their warengine the Emperors champion and his Sword Brethren engage the Super Heavies.
The Marines manage a valiant 7 Hits and 1 Macro (Even though the Hydra made it's save versus the snipe!) and the guard an equal 7 hits but to the marines delight a DC lost on one Stormhammer destroys it in a critical explosion! (Pulsar does a little dance again.)
The combat ended with 4 kills to the marines, 2 to the guard but on resolution a straight draw.
In the second round of combat the surviving two Stormhammers hit just 3 times, but the marines equal their ineptitude with 3 hits and a 1 macro. When the smoke clears the Hydra is slag and another battle brother lies in pieces. The Superheavies then press their weight advantage and win the resolution by 2, crumbling another Brethren!

MUHAHHAHHAHHAHH!
The Stormhammers get caught up celebrating their beating 1250 points of Black Templars and fail to activate . . . twice! So just removes Blast markers.

Deeply angered by the loss of their Sword Brethren the Landspeeders fire up the engines popping over a building to murder another Stormtrooper.

The Leman Russ - although ecstatic at the Stormhammers success - see the 'hammers are vulnerable and advance to shoot the Crusaders arrayed about the Transporters landing gear. The Russ's withering hail of energy and explosive shells shatter the unit down to just three stands of Marines!



Desperate to finish the insanely stubborn Stormhammers the final Crusader squad along with the Supreme Commander march and position themselves directly before the formidable armoured behemoths.

Finally the Stormblades fail to activate, stumbling forwards through the Cathedral ruins.

End Phase:
Both broken Space marine units (Sword Brethren and Crusaders from Transporters) rally.
The Crusaders on the marines left remove all BM's.

The Stormblades remove their 1 BM, but the stormtroopers fail to remove any.


End of turn 1.

Turn 2.

Minervans win initiative. (I do a little dance, whoop, shout, dance some more.)

The Leman Russ sieze an early advantage, doubling to shield the Stormhammers and raking the undamaged Supreme Commander's Crusader formation killing 2 Neophytes and 1 Rhino.
The Stormhammers then consolidate this massed armour movement and engage the Crusaders. The air thickens with lead as the two sides unload entire magazines at eachother, 6 hits from the Stormhammers and 5 from the Russ, 9 and a macro from the marines and another 2 in support.
The result is two DC stripped from the Super Heavies but a devastating 5 dead Neophytes leaving the Minervans up by 4 in resolution, crumbling two more marines and breaking their unit.



The Landspeeders continue their headlong careen over the battlefield (losing one to the overwatch might of a shadowsword) drawing up behind the Stormtroopers and destroying another Valkyrie.
The marines retain and send in the Crusaders positione on the road to engage the ragged Stormtrooper formation. Though bravely standing their ground in the opening exchange the Stormies are inevitably wiped out, taking just a single Neophyte with them.

The Imperial Guard commander, rattled by the loss of the Stormtroopers, makes the rash decision of marching his Stormblades up the centre of the battlefield, rendering them unable to support in any subsequent firefight or fire their AA.

Turn 2 continued:

The surviving three stands of Crusaders turn their guns on the Stormhammers, luckily destroying the Commisariat Tank and breaking the last Stormhammer which guns it's engines up the road towards the Stormblades.

The Mech Platoon seek again to strengthen their position and double to hold the road centre, laying supression fire on the Supreme Commanders Crusader mob, and succeeding in the removal of a rhino and a Hunter.

Taking advantage of the situation (noticing that the Supreme Commander and his formation will now fit into the Transporters) the marine commander sends in his Thunderhawk Transporters to relieve the pressure on the dwindling Crusaders.


The Thunderhawk Close Air Support - fully refueled and rearmed roars across the skies once more, but only manages to bring down a single Chimera of the Mech Infantry. Unfortunately for the Guard Platoon, just three stands of Sword Brethren Infiltrate into assault with them - with the Stormhammer only feet away but broken and the Stormblades having marched the mechanized platoon is alone facing these Marines. Valiantly killing a third of the enemy (1 stand) the guard proceed to lose 5 troops, their Commisar and a Chimera following this sterling performance with losing combat and running away.



End Phase:

Mech Platoon fails to rally.
Stormhammer Rallies.
Although the Sword Brethren fail to remove any blastmarkers all other Space Marine units rally.

If the Champions sniper attack was put on the Hydra it wouldn't receive a save (normally 6+ Armour but -1 for the sniper should equal no save).

Well, Meh! This would only make it 7+ (6+ followed by 4+)?

Also Pulsar cheated horribly through both games with the Sniper ability on his Emperor's champion by hitting targets he wasn't in base contact with (Such as said hydra!)

The ability to roll a "7+" in EPIC is limited to actual shooting attacks, not any other kind of roll... just so ya know!

I didn't hence the question mark. Thanks for clarifying. Anyway, the super-hydra with extra armour survived.
