Well we are approaching the next weekend and my next battle against fluffy.

this time i will be a 4000pt slug fest between tech guard and nids 8.4, Ragnarok iteration.

i have no idea what Fluffy is taking, but he has asked that I bring along all my Reavers and Super heavy tanks.  But to give him some help and as a slight tease.  My list is

8 stealers
   with brood lord

2 Hierophnats (as a single brood)

3 warriors
3 hormagaunt clusters
6 termagaunt clusters

Tyrant
4 carnifex clusters

Malanthrope (count as tyrant)
2 zoanthrope clusters
1 trygon
2 Ravener clusters

Tyrant
   with wings
3 gargoyle clusters

Harridan

Dominatrix
Barbed Hierodule
Scythed Hierodule

Only 8 activations, but 12 Carnifexes garrisoned forwards backed up by 3 bio titans should be able to deal with anything I come across (bar an inability to roll above a 2)

Here as some teaser pictures

The swarm

I might swap a few things around to get an extra trio of warriors and split the infantry swarm in half, there are a heck of a lot of them.

The snake formation and carnifex herd.

the Gargoyle swarm. ?I wish that warriors could have wings to look after these pbirds. ?The Tyrant looks out of place.

Finally The WEs. ?three titans and a pair of 'dules.

i'm looking forward to it.

I just hope I don't get my arse handed to me again.  Fluffy has played against me (and has a game total) of three times

First time with just two infantry formations each to show him the ropes - he won.
second time - with about 1000pts a side to get use to objectives, tanksetc
third time, our first battle 3000pts and he wiped the floor with me.

And here is the Tech Guard army.

4000pts of Imperial might

Massed infantry

Pride of the Mechanicus

Special forces (with gun pods rather than fuel tanks)

I am really looking forwards to this battle.

13 war engines (6 of them titan class) and almost 150 other units. ?This is what Epic is all about.

Well it was a great game.  Even if I did lose almost every single engagement

How can nids lose in assaults?  How?

I'll post a detailed report once I am back from the shops.

Fluffy deployed his blitz in the far corner, hidden behind a ruined factory, whereas the nids blitz was placed centrally behind a giant paddy field.

The two tech guard objective then went down near the woods in the centre and the two nid objectives in the open ground behind the woods (I had learnt the hard way, how difficult it is to budge infantry from objectives in buildings).

Fluffy garrisoned one cohort off of his blitz in the corner and the rest of his infantry went into the clear space between the forests, guarding the remiaing objectives.

I garrisoned the stealer brood behind the forest, so they wouldn?t get shot, and the fex herd in the open, so they would be a tempting target.

The garrisons

The remaining deployment had most of my army refusing away from the blitz and fluffy placing his super heavies behind the forest, ready to go either way round it.

Nid deployment

Techguard deployment

I also swore to myself that none of his titans should survive

Turn 1  initiative nids.
The bio titans advance towards the largest concentration of prey and fire their bio cannons at the valkyries.  Their fire brought down 2 of the skimmers and none on board survived, breaking the formation, which pushed forwards to keep an eye on the stealers.

The stealers, not like being watched, advance into the wood, ready to launch an assault on the prey on the other side.

In response the warlord doubles forwards, bringing its guns to bear on the gargoyle flock, bringing down 2 packs of the fell creatures.

Following its? big brothers example the Reaver doubles after the gargoyles as well, but only brings down one pack of them.

The hive minds response is to march the massed infantry swarm forward, eager to get to the all you can eat buffet.

The Harridan then lazily flaps forwards (double) and fires a few shots at the Valkyries as it passes, causing a squad of storm troopers to fall from the open door of one of the transport (did we do this right, can any unit in the formation be removed as a BM casualty, or only those eligible to be shot?).

The warhound then advances on the carnifex herd.  Killing two of them with its plasma blast gun.

Enraged by the unwarranted attack on his herd the tyrant marches the fexes right into the face of the magos

The Super heavy tanks are then ordered forwards, by a very worried arch magos and unload all they have at the fex herd.  Killing a few of them (forgot to record how many)

This is followed up by the support cohort?s hydra firing at the carnies, but not doing much.  Fluffy was getting very worried by these critters.

In response the Dominatrix (henceforth to be known as big momma) doubled her charge forwards and killed a tribune from the support cohort with a well placed biocannon shot.

The techguard in the corner, decided to play it safe and went on overwatch.

The Gargoyle brood then marched, flapping over the forest placing themselves in a position to support an assault on the warhound, or the support cohort (both of which were within engage range of the stealers and the harridan).

The snake swarm then marched straight at the Warlord and Reaver titans, not quite sure what Big Momma wanted them to do.

In the end phase everyone but the storm troopers railed.  The broken storm troopers fled to my blitz.

I rolled a 6 in total for my spawning and replaced 2 carnifexi in the herd (which meant the SHT took down 3 of them).

Beginning of turn two (and the only between turn photos I rememered)

Turn 2

The tech guard got the initiative and took it with gusto with the super heavy tanks advancing on the fex herd, killing the freshly spawned duo.

The Warhound then retained and engaged the gargoyle flock.  It body slams into 3 of them and the winged tyrant counter chargers into base contact.

A combination of the other gargoyles managing to take down all its void shields and the three flocks it smashes into overpowering the titan?s window screen wipers meant that the princep didn?t see the tyrant  sneak behind the warhound and ham string it.

For a cost of three gargoyles I had killed my first titan.

In response, the hivemind decided to help out the fex herd and ordered the scout bio titans to advance upon the arch magosi cohort and shoot them.  The result was 6 dead skitarri and the cohort on the same number of BMs as the fex herd.

The fex then engage the intermingled arch magos and support cohorts, thought better of itand decided to graze on the grass around them!

Big momma cleared her throat and they fexes jumped into action and into several surprised skitarri (they didn?t know that fex ate grass).

The combined plasma fire from two cohorts killed every last fex, but not before they them selves killed 4 skitarrii squads, two tribune squads and a fire support squad. (I muffed up my MW attacks sigh).  The remaining tyrant lost by one and decided to go and investigate the far side of the nearby wood.  However the arch magosi formation is also broken and pulls back.

The warlord, oblivious to what is happening on the other side of the wood, diverts all power to its weapons and fires at the approaching snake swarm, obliterating 5 broods of Raveners,3 zoanthropes and the Trygon, bringing the swarm close to breaking.

Eager to prove its worth the Reaver also sustains at the snake brood, killing a further ?thrope and two ravener broods, beaking the swarm.  Forcing it to withdraw behind a runined factory.

The Harridan then flaps back towards the blitz nd opens up on the storm troopers.  Blowing another of the Valkyries out of the sky and killing the storm troopers on board andalo accounts for the honour guard.

The support cohort then advances upon the gargoyle flock, basting 5 gaggles of them apart, breaking the swarm, that flees back towards its? own blitz.

Big momma then doubles towards the reaver, bringing it into engagement range, and knocing down all of its? void shields with well placed bio cannon shots.

The Skitarri cohort iguarding the blitz remain on overwatch, content with their lot in the battle.

The big warrior led swarm is told to double forwards to threaten the tech guard infantry, but since theya re tired from the march and Big Momma isn?t watching they just walk forwards a bit (failed activation).

The stealers then engage the support cohort,

which is within support range of the super heavy tanks.

17 4+ first strike attacks, one with MW, cause 6 hits, three of which are saved!  The torrent of fire from the supporting super heavy tanks breaks the brood lord and he leads his remaining  boyz back into the wood, to find small animals to attack (hoping that they will be easier prey).

In the end phase NO nid formation rallies, nor does the Arch Magos, all other formations rally.

I roll stupidly high for spawning and spawn 4 fexes into the big warrior led swarm, mainly for the cover saves they give :D

Turn three

The tech guard take the initiative and the Reaver sustains fire at the approaching Big momma. Causing one DC to the scythed hierodule.

The storm troopers then try to advance on the harridan, but fail, so the vulture fires all of its missiles at the Harridan, causing one DC.

Big momma then engages the intermingled Reaver and Warlord.

The Reavers Chainfist spins up and causes 1DC to the barbed Hierodule and kills the scythed hierodule, whilst its other CC attacks cause a single point of damage to big momma herself.  In return 3 Dc of damage is done to the Reaver (I hit with both of big momma?s claws but then rolled a double 1!)

The second round had the Reaver kill the remaining Hierodule before being disembowelled by Big momma.  However she is broken by the combat res and flees towards the tech guard blitz.

The two biotitans then march past the warlord and place themselves between it and Big Momma, so that he can?t shoot her.

So the Warlord  advances on them instead, causing 1DC of damage to each, one of which is a critical which causes a second Dc of damage.

The techguard  guarding the blitz decide to earn their protein gruel and sustain fire on Big momma, causing a single DC of damage.

The Harridan then sustains fire at the storm troopers and blows apart the Vulture, breaking the formiton, again.

The super heavy tanks then advance upon the warrior swarm, killing two fexes 1 hormagaunt and 2 termagaunts.

The warriors then lead their swarm in an all out charge against the intermingled support cohort and superheavy tanks.

6 hormagaunts get into base contact and everyone else provides supporting fire.  17 5+ attacks and 6 4+ attacks kill 3 skitarri (the hormagaunts all fluffed their attacks).  Inreturn 8 hormagaunts and 3 termagaunts are killed.  The nids lose by 13 and an extra 6 gaunts are lost (an unexpected bonus of having ATSKNF).

In the end phase the storm trooper rally as does the lone tyrant from the fex herd and the gargoyle flock.  Everyone else fails.

Big momma and both bio titans regenerate 1 DC each and I spawn a few gargoyles off of the Harridan.
