And you'd be correct!

He just kind of blanked on landed Thunderhawks being valid targets for the pin-point attacks.  With both Warhounds gone he thought I'd have no targets... *LAUGH*  Yes, a major blunder... but... well... Marines still won.  *LAUGH*

I think the Stealths got lucky on turn 1 as they both managed to drop 3 speeders.

Both Stealth teams wound up scoring five hits on each of their Speeder targets, so even just two kills would've broken them... but, yeah, they did get lucky... but they're still dang nasty!  I might even start adding the upgrade to them, though the Blast marker risk is a real pain then.

A few questions:

Why did you deploy the Stealths inside the ZoC of the Speeders?  Were you just playing defensively?  Forcing them to move would prevent them from taking Sustained Fire against the Stealth teams but it seems to me that with cover and 5+RA, even a Sustained Fire from the Speeders wasn't a big threat.  OTOH, being able to Sustain with the Stealths would have been useful against LVs in the open.

What went into your decision to start some fairly aggressive movement in the beginning of the game?  You had the lucky first activation with the Stealth breaking both Speeders.  It seems like you could have moved carefully to maintain that advantage and make the SMs come to you.  Something like leapfrogging the FW1 in front of FW2 who were still on OW would have developed your position but remained defensive and forced the SMs to make difficult decisions about how close they wanted to get.

Also, I'm interested in why you decided not to lean on the Speeders once they were broken.  One kill would have wiped them out.  The Stealth would have been unsupported, but they were both in cover and it looks like if the Marines had gone after them they would have had to at least partially split forces.  Obviously, there was no urgency in that since they were broken.  You could have waited until the end of the turn or hit them with aircraft at some point when you needed to stall.  Even if it didn't work, that would have forced the Tbolt/Barracuda encounter off to one side, away from the SM Hunter support.

The Stealths couldn't be placed within the ZoC of the Speeders, as both formations have scouts... they were actually over 10cm of cover away from the Speeders to prevent a sustained fire LOS in the, likely, event that the Marines went first.  I wanted to get rid of the MW threat to my Crisis Suits.

Well, I tend to be more of a "Killing Blow" Tau commander, so I don't like to sit back.  As well, almost all the Marine formations out-ranged me, so sitting on overwatch/hanging back would mean they could approach and fire at their leisure.

Also, I'm interested in why you decided not to lean on the Speeders once they were broken.

Well... I did take them out in Turn 2... *laugh*  With the lack of characters for the Marines and being broken, it meant they'd have a Blast marker even if they rallied, so I saw them as a greatly reduced thread.
