Recently we've tried to avoid straight fire lanes when we've placed the scenery pieces on our gaming table. Theres usually not more than 45cm between pieces on the table.
Personally i prefer to play with 12 larger terrain pieces than more but smaller ones.

tried a midtable garrison stompa+dredmob

worked absurdly well, though i think quite a bit of that was because no one expected it. i usually garrison big gunzmobs midtable so they expected a shooting match and planned accordingly. instead they got assaulted on turn 1 with things that aren't great at FF but are good at shooting. it was a disaster.

had a warband with killa kanz and a landamob with killa kanz, both worked out pretty well.

will continue testing. if nothing else it's an interesting wild card option

Sorry to do a minor necro; but I wonder if anyone has any good advice for use of Battlefortresses/Gunfortresses?

Mintroll won the EpicUK GT with a speed freaks list containing 14 gunforts back in 2011..... I think generally going for lots of them tends to work as it can overwhelm an opponent.... I don't think I'd use them with infantry personally, I'll probably stick to them in the Speed Freaks list
