I am a player of Netepic, in this rules you can create a army only for orks without Grotzs. I have two armies: goffs and Evil Sunzs, only orks and stuff but no Grotzs. Now I want to try NetEA and I have a problem... Anyone created a list with only orks? Thanks |

Gargant Bigmobs work fine without Grotz too. |

You can also do it with just the core/original list and just skip including the Grots! You'll be at a slight disadvantage, depending on which formations you take, but it shouldn't be crippling. |

I was about to post a question about grots, but if Expio doesn't mind I'll tag it on here. Where do people get their grots from? They are pretty much free and their disposable nature and ability to hang on to the outside of transports means there are almost no downsides to taking them. By not surely you are putting yourself at quite a disadvantage. However if, like Expio you have an army, which I assume is based on the pre Epic40k sprues that had no grots, or if you have a mixture like me, where do you get more gretchin from? The only source seems to be the epic warband set, which is both an expensive way to get 8 stands of gretchin and gives you 24 more stands of orks... so you need more gretchin. We have a list that can support, even suggest, an almost parity in number between boyz and grotsz, but over the years GW must have made far far far more orks than they ever made gretchin. Are there some great proxies out there I have missed? I can only assume ork players either miss out grots because they don't have the mini, even though they want them, or they have hoards of orks that they will never use, but that they bought to get the grots. |

that's a good question. The warband sprues are the main source yes. There's a very few in the ork character blister - a very expensive way of getting the grotz you need. Other than that you might be able to find loose grots floating around, perhaps for trade on this forum, perhaps on ebay. You might also be able to find stuff that might serve as grot proxies from the smaller manufacturers out there. Failing all that perhaps one could manufacture some out little bits of wire and greenstuff? If you really don't want to go through all that, you could try the Speed Freaks army instead of the normal ork horde. This one has no grotz but you needs lots of 'truks' if you want to field all those ork boys |

and yes, I have far more ork boyz than I need (and only just about enough grotz!) |

Securing a supply of Grotz is an ongoing problem due to the ratios in which they have been packaged over the years. First, I suggest basing your Grotz differently. If the Boyz are on long bases, put the Grotz on squares or rounds. That makes it clear which stands are which at a glance, even if you're using proxies and mixing in non-standard models. You can get away with a lot more creativity that way. My best proxy suggestion is Microworld Games. They have 6mm fantasy Goblins that work well and are relatively inexpensive for the quality you get. They are armed with swords and spears and shields, but you can mix them in with the gun-toting GW grots to stretch them a long way. For my feral ork army, I used mostly the Microworld goblins as "wyldgrotz." (Incidentally, Microworld also has good boar rider orcs that mix well with the GW boarboyz.) There are also several kinds of models you can mix in to stretch the grotz you have. Probably the cheapest is to mix in the older, SM-era ork boyz. You can get them by the bucketfull on eBay. Due to scale creep, the older boyz models are about the same size as the more recent Grotz. I have a number of stands where I've done that and no one's ever commented on it, if they noticed at all. Obviously, the old Runtherds characters are good to mix in with the Grotz. If you have the time and patience to do it, it's pretty easy to make squigs to mix in. They're just little balls of green stuff with faces carved into them. You can also find auctions for Grotz on eBay from time to time, but that probably goes without saying. |

I used only 3 grots / base to stretch out their number a bit when I realized how few I have. Partly visible on this one: viewtopic.php?p=405264#p405264 |
