What would be the best list for fielding a load of Stmpas?

Sorting through all my Epic boxes to get figures sorted for my Evil Sunz army I also dug out some other figures. I have 16 Stompas, 10 of which are painted. Plus a load of Dreads.

Looking through the Gobgutz Badfang’s Stompy Onslaught thread, I can see there are no Stompas and have seen the reasons for their omission.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

James

I'm in the same boat - countless Stompas (well, countless for an Ork...!) to use, but no 'Ork Mech' list to use them in. I was thinking about it and, as madd0ct0r says figured I could proxy them as Mega Dreads, or use the default Ork army list as you can take them as formations in their own right there. Admittedly you can't take Snappa Mobs though...

How about in the Stompy list allowing the option to purchase an additional Big Gun on the Mega Dread for 25pts? This would allow 3 weapons and overcome the WYSIWYG issue, and mean the stats and cost match the stompa completely. (I think, off the top of my head).

(Anyway, 3 week old kid has gone back to sleep, so I'm going back to bed now!)

Cheers
Reedar

Nah, the stats are subtly different still, as it has 2x big shootas on the basic hull, and no big shootas on the CCW arms, for example.

The Megadread is a bit worse in general than a Stompa, which means it can be a bit cheaper, which means you can have lots of them in an army.

I wouldn't really want to complicate the Stompy Onslaught list by having an option to add an extra big gun to the Mega Dread, but if you wanted to use Badfang's Stompy list plastic Stompas would be a great proxy for Mega Dreads.

Looking at Gobgutz Badfang’s Stompy Onslaught list, 1 see that 4 Megadreads for a mob, so presumably 12 Megadreads for 'Uge mob for 525 points. I am certainly never going to be able to get 12 Megadreads, so I can certainly get good use out of most (if not all) of my 16 Stompas, so that would be good option and would allow me to use what I have.

Looking further I see that Stompy Onslaught list has the rulebook Ork Warband of adding extra Nobz. This army will be painted as Goffs (my 2 favorite Ork Clans have always been Goffs and Evil Sunz and the dark colours of Goffs will be a nice contrast to my Evil Sunz that I am painting at the moment). And Goffs always had a lot of Nobz, so that is another plus for me for the Stompy Onslaught list.

One final question. In Stompy Onslaught list is there any restriction on Gargants/Great Gargants? I have a couple Gargants part painted in Goff colours. If I can use them freely in this list then my army is pretty much decided. A couple of Gargants, a dozen Megadreads, some footsloggers and Ork Dreadnaughts.....

Will be a nice contrast to my Evil Sunz.

Thanks

James

One third, as with Ghazgul's Horde.

OK- I can love with that as otherwise detracts from OGBM. I will have to restrict myself to just the one Gargant then except in larger games.

Presumably you'll state the one third limit in the next update of the Ork supplement lists.

Right off to do some painting.

Thanks

James

I'd just use the NetEA Ghazgkhull list, which has Big/Uge Stompamobz (225/400/575).

You can also build walker warbands (infantry warband + kanz/dreads/stompas) - garrison, shootier, attached AVs for cover, walker on the AVs to match infantry mobility (mostly). There's more discussion in the strategy thread(s).

Thanks Neal. Yes I think you are right. It is somewhat ironic that the best list for fielding Stompas is the core rulebook list rather than the Stompy Onslaught list. That's a failing in the Stompy Onlsaught list IMO.

Cheers

Or a variant list is providing variance. :)

Variety is good. But you would nt want a Titan list without Titans or a Gargant list without Gargants....

Might not be as catchy LOL!

Any comments/critiques on WIP picture? I have hopefully finished the checks and the red areas. Need to shade the metallic areas and then highlight green and black areas.

Am I along the right lines?

Cheers

James
