When you pick a formation with grotz do you have to take them? Looking specifically at the initial Warband purchase.

The aditional boyz grot is optional but what about the formation grotz.

It's a simple case of lots of boyz, not so many grotz. Generally it's not a problem but if I'm looking at infantry heavy then I might get a bit short.

Put it this way...you'd be at a severe disadvantage without them!
I guess the boyz upgrade for 25pts can choose not to take a grot...

You never have to take something you have brought. But the list lives and dies often by its grots. Maybe check out thread on grot proxies, using 1st edition smaller orks etc? Or look at the speedfreak list?

Does any company make 6mm Grotz or Goblin models that could be proxied? I've definitely seen 6mm fantasy orks for instance (Reaver sculpted some I believe). One would think there'd be a gap / cross-over in the market.

Hum. https://www.baccus6mm.com/ has some fantasy goblins but of course they ARE armed with spears...Of course if you don't mind having spear armed goblins as grotz then they might be good.

Goblins with guns might be trickier though.

As TRC said, you can always leave purchased units behind.

In addition to Bacchus, you could look at the Microworld 6mm goblins for proxies.  I bought some and the quality is decent.  Obviously, they also have spears and swords instead of guns, but you could mix them in with the normal grots to stretch the stands quite a bit (or use them as Feral Ork grots, which is my plan).  You might even be able to get away with painting some of the spears as rifles (they would probably look as good as the IG ratling snipers).

I've also stretched grot stands by mixing in the sm/tl era orks.  They are noticeably smaller/weedier than the later models and mixed in with the grots are virtually indistinguishable.

I've got some of the smaller ork models pegged as boyz at the moment.

I've got 68 boyz and 12 grotz stands, of which only 24 of the boyz are the larger variety. I'll have a look at a selection of 6mm goblins then.

If you are not in a rush wait till the new year and come to a UK tourny, I'll bring some of my thousands of spare boys and you can figure out how to build your stands :)
