With all the discussion of things Orky here, there's one area of the Ork army that doesn't seem to be getting any attention at all: Ork spacecraft!

Has anyone ever used one?  At 200 points, and only showing up on a 3+, the Kill Kroozer doesn't seem worth it.  And I have *never* heard of an Ork "drop" army utilizing a Battlekroozer!  The 1-in-3 risk of it not coming in on Turn 3 is not something I'm willing to take... no matter how green I may be!  *laugh*

That leads me to a side question: If the Warlord was aboard a Landa held on the Battlekroozer, would that allow a re-roll on the Action test to get it on board?

I think that most "Slow and Steady" spacecrafts are not really used in the tournament settings. Too long out of the game really. I haven't every seen any of them :D.

I have seen a Marine Battle Barge in a Tournament... with a Scout/Tactical all drop army... it certainly seemed to freak out the opponent, but I don't think it did that well.

And that's a 1+ activation... *laugh*

I have never seen an Ork Spacecraft being used, however if I knew that I was going to face Seige Masters I would use one. Problem is for tournaments you don't normally know what you are going to face.

Saw a Battlebarge being used at the last Open War by Braveheart, but I don't think that this army did too well.

The problem for low initialtive armies is that the ideal turn for the craft to turn up can be blocked by an opponent delaring for that turn before you. Imagine an ork drop army set for turn 3 playing marines or eldar with a spacecraft. this could be declared for turn 3 thus delaying the orks to turn 4 and rapping up the game before they could arrive.

Is there a problem with 'slow and steady'?

Should it be turn 2 onwards?

I have no problem with slow and steady, but it is more designed for scenarios and not for tournament play.

That's the thing, "Slow and Steady" should, I feel, be a scenario specific rule, instead of the Tournament play rule that it now is.

I think a "turn 2" change to it would be a good thing.

Third turn drop armies IMHO are not realy usable because they cannot get back all the objectives they give away. Also they tend to be frowned upon in tourney circles because they do not give a decent game.

As Tim says Ork ships are too unreliable. And as for a third turn Ork drop army - - - - well that "heads I win, tails you lose" ?:p ?

Regarding the use of the SC reroll to get the spaceship activation, I would give a tentative "yes" as he is involved in the activation (albeit inside a Landa), but you probably need Neal or Lord I to give a formal answer - though this is much more relevant to Eldar spaceships.

With regards to that activation, it's no. There was a question about it and that part was no. See below

Ugh... that makes Ork spacecraft even worse... *laugh*

Keep in mind the slow-n-steady craft are costed for coming in on turn 3.  If you change them to turn 2 you make them more efficient and then worthy of changing their cost.  I'm not sure tournament lists need to be tinkered with and scenarios let you do whatever you want.  House rules can let you have fun with them too.  Sometimes these things are best left alone IMO.

I've never seen any spacecraft in a tournament except SM/CSM and rarely seen them even in non-tourney army lists.  I've played against third turn SM drops and they are mediocre at best.  They simply don't have the speed after the drop to react to an enemy who's had 2 turns to maneuver freely.

With pre-plotting and a 3+ to activate, any Ork spacecraft will always be a matter of luck.  I know that the army lists are supposed to be for use in the GT scenario, but I've never seen a suggestion that I thought made spacecraft feasible in the GT.  I'm inclined to leave them for scenario play even though they are in the "GT" army list.

Yes leave them alone.

I have seen a few Wraithships and been luckly not to face them when playing with hoard armies. If caught playing corner to corner against a 4BP MW barrage on turn 1 it could do nasty things to my army.

Agreed, leave them as they are.  The current balance was deliberate I believe.
