Still have no idea how I could stop a formation of 2 decimators which deal out macro barrages. Tie them up with small formation as cannonfodder? They were just sitting next to the objective and shooting me to pieces...

Zzapwagons/Zzapforts should have no problem with the Decimators. Zzap guns are TKd3, outrange the Decimators and both wagons and forts are much faster than Decimators. Even infantry Zzaps should have a decent shot at picking them off.

I suspect this was more of an issue of you having many fewer activations due to the mega-formation tying up so many points.

Never tried that one, don't you find that they're too vulnerable without the reinforced armour?

Not if you build the list right.

A small number of forts in an army list is terrible. They become primary targets for MW and TK. They die fast and quiet.

Orks are an attrition force. Forts are cheap transport (~20% less than wagons), so take lots. Give the opponent lots of potential targets so there just isn't enough MW/TK to deal with them all. If you lose a few forts, so what? Overwhelm the specialized firepower with numbers.

You can also ramp up the demands for MW/TK firepower by taking other heavy units, like Stompas, Supastompas and Gargants.

In other words, when it comes to using Fortresses, go heavy or go home.

985pts OUCH that is a lot in one formation. To deal with decimators I normally take Blitz Brigades with Supa-Zzaps

yep, I was aware of it that I had too few activations. I just had to test it.

I knew that there will be decimators and had two large formations of wagons with 2 zap-gunz each, but they broke before I could lay some fire on the decimators...

Nothing you can do about that.

We made a demo on the Hungarian "Games Day" where we managed to attract 6 new people. Only one of them actually started building an army. 3 others had armies from the epic 40000 era but did not come for a battle yet.

We managed to recruit more people. I hope it will stay this way. A campaign started where I have to face now 3500p chaos with 2000p orks...

Still pondering on the forces I should take. I am sure I will face a banelord titan...

(btw, if this thread does not really fit into the NetEA thread, it could be moved away from here...)
