What about having them as part of a Freebooterz list? Get Lootaz & Flash Gitz in there as well.

More of a footsloggers list delivered via Landaz/Tellytportaz or somesuch.

Frogbear, I think that the Ork variants are a fun idea for Ork fanboys but I also agree that it would be a major headache to get through one game with them.

Better to have a few themed units that become the jewels in a variant list. One thought I had years ago was a Fly-Boyz list where everything in the list was a flying unit, skimmer, or jumppack. Makes for some fun opportunities to use FW AI pieces too. By limiting the 'Ork regulars' you can add the other units in and not overwhelm the player (or the opponent) with 50 unit types.

IMO that goes for any list, though. Too many unit types and you get lost in the army list. Combine a lot of unit types with the loose-knit army construction for the Orks and you're liable to make somebody's head explode.

My recommendation is take a handful of your favorite Ork ideas and slap together a new variant list. Orks are never taken too seriously anyway so the ideas can be goofy and still acceptable because... well, cuz their Orks!
