Mixing AV and Inf units together in a formation has one advantage - the infantry can use them for cover (well 2 per av can) and one big disadvantage - now all the enemies AP and AT weapons have targets. Shifting the dreadnoughts into the stompa mob both removes that disadvantage and bolsters the stompas numbers for rally tests (more units than one hand +1 to rally/shift bm's, more than 2 hands +2 to rally/shift bm's). Have the dreds behind the stompas to be shielded somewhat from enemy fire and you have a stronger formation.

You're a bit light on activations, but they are tough, so it will probably work.

That said, if you find yourself out-activated, I would suggest breaking up the Uge Mob into a Big Warband and a Normal Warband + Dreads.  Those are still fairly tough formations.

One thing, though, you may have a lot of flak guns, but they don't necessarily translate into a lot of AA ability.  Flakwagons are so short ranged that even with 8 of them you will pretty much always have exposed formations for aircraft to attack.  Also, their to-hit values are pretty low, so an opponent can often brave the edges of your flak umbrella if there is a high priority target that they really want to get to.

I'm not saying that it's a huge weakness that must be covered.  I just want to point out that it may not be as effective as you seemed to imply.

Sweet well getting better, but its getting to a point now where something is going to be lacked, i think i will split the urg mob down as i think it is a bit big, the drads i know the are going to get shot at but i think they will work well with the assault mob squad. As for the flack tanks i don't know every one says there the bread and butter so i add a bit in. i think i am happy with being venerable just to air attacks.

Hello All.

I know there has been no updates but i have been working on my 40k army that needs to be done before September for a torny. Been waiting on my bases from battfront and now they have come i am not 100% on them now i think the are just a bit to big but there smaller bases will just be to small.

These are the 3 options i can do for bases for my battle wagons i have about 50 gun wagons that need doing and i want to make sure i get the right base before i do that all.

Gray base is Mid base for flames of war cost about $15 nz for 28, others are GW bases and there cost is about $18 nz for 5 mid bases and 20 small bases. So not that keen on doing the mid bases due to cost but i want the outcome to be the best so if it comes to that i will.

is there any reason you have decided not to use the small FOW bases?

just checking one now the length is a tight fit with a little overhang of the engine or the roller but there is a nice 3mm on either side for a little terrain. With the amount of vehicles that the orks use i think it could be a good option :)

Spikes and claw vehicles give some nice space infront for some terrain too

I agree with Mango. The small bases are good for smaller AV vehicles and transports, They also will not get in the way during assaults.

If you look at my painting Blog for the Imperial Fists, you will see how they look with terrain painted on. The mid sized ones only get used when I start getting into Land Raiders.

Hope this helps

Cheers..

Well after a bit of thinking, i decided to go with the mid FOW bases but in a strange but cool manner.

Due to there being a large amount of space for making the base look good. I have made the squad of ten tanks as a sort of mini diorama to make the whole think not look to big and i think they came out very nice.

Enjoy C&C welcome

Thats great. You could in fact do the whole army in close formation with the base themes running through it all. At least I'll have a go at that at some point!

the idea come into my head when i had made 8 random road bases and when they where all together did not look that good so i though dam i will just put a big road though all 10bases and chop it in bits. but i will be doing the rest of my tanks and that like this. but when i make my display board up i will put a road where it is on these bases.

Well, look who wants a display army :)

Those bases, is it flock/static grass or a mixture?

And you used a fine sand as a base?

So was teh road stuck an and chopped or was it just painted onto the plain base?

And a crazy idea with more work involved. How about make the display board into a piece of scenery? So paint the roads even in the depressions for the vehicles so they are less obvious, have a ruined market town the Orks are infesting etc. Then it could be stuck on the table as well :) Kinda like ancients and their ornate blitz objectives :)

I am always out there to win best army that's just me :vD  :vD

The grass is the basic modeling flock from gw that i bought for flames of war and moved it to epic.

The sand is two types and from my model trains, i am using fine balist for the main durt and course balist for the bits by the road.

The road is also made out of model rail suff, N scale track bed glued over the bases and then chopped to make sure they fit.

I am always into more work have been plaing on making a 6x4 rpic board with the new GW boards they have but been trying to hunt the epic buildings down. Also i have 3 epic and 2 40k armys on the go at the same time.
