I agree with Jimmy, having the war engine transport makes the formation that much tougher to hit (especially as infantry can hide behind it to avoid being seen) plus it can barge in an assault, still use FF in most cases, and soak up the first 6 hits with its 4+RA

that said, they are expensive for such a slow unit, I'd be in favour of a speed boost to 20cm to match the gorgon, maybe relaxing the fire arcs somewhat so it can shoot a little more effectively would be good too

I think this sounds like a transport I would use. In your opinion, what might be a good point value to playtest this Tower at?

I think they're 325 at the moment, I reckon 275/300 would be the sweet spot if it were a tad faster and had wider fire arcs.... I'm planning on taking one in my death guard, but that's just because I adore the model and would rather use it and pay over the odds than have it malinger on my shelf gathering dust.... :)

+1. Or, +3 actually. This sounds like something to be tested whenever my next game occurs.

Fitting it in as a sort of nurgly gorgon sounds good to me.

Yes it might have more of a role then.

I'll be happy to playtest it with you, SgtShellback. Let's get a game in soon.

Has anyone tried using it purely as artillery? It throws out just as much and possibly more BP than contagion engines or basilisks and has alot more resilience - only suffering on range.

Necrobumping this dead (?) thread. Im planning a game in a few weeks and wil try some modifications to the LatD list ; the BL summoning tweaks and some of the changes to the infamous Plague tower suggested here. All those games that were planned above, did they take place? If so, then what was the results?

I've played 4 games with the new plague towers; 1 game with one tower, the other three with 2 each. All games had the plague towers each transporting a (nurgle) coven. I tried them both as independent war engines and as part of the coven and actually prefer them when bought as part of the coven for the following 2 reasons:

1) a Coven with Plague Tower is a nice meaty BTS

2) to engage with a coven being transported by an independent war engine, you have to activate the war engine so don't get to summon daemons with the coven; a coven with a Plague Tower can summon daemons and then activate to assault.

With their changes (300 pts and 20cm mv) I'm more than happy to take them as they make excellent assault platforms with a Coven.

Great! Sounds very good and in keeping with my rotmachine cult fluff. Will try them as part of covens.
