Thanks for the feedback Matt :) .

I tried to play it safe with the Defilers by sticking to 5 but making the cost 80pts/Defiler. I'm certainly open to this number going up to 6 in the future but I'm not sure that opponents will be happy with the IW's getting the core Defilers for a slight discount price...
I suppose we'll see what players think of the formation in play-test games.
Any other Iron Warrior players/opponents have thoughts on the 2 Defiler choices (5@400 - 6@400/425) ?

We've already discussed that an all AV/We Iron Warriors army is well within the theme of the background and how Iron Warriors do war.
It is to be noted that if they want scouts (as most players would), they have to take infantry unlike the Minervans for example.
It should be noted that with the proposed changes to the Black Legion list, it looks like an all AV/WE list is possible there as well.

My preference for the Ordinatus is to keep it as is stat-wise. We'll see if the slight price bump and other cost/list changes reduce activation counts enough to make people happy.

It's just occurred to me (yeah I know I'm slow :D ) that 4 Defilers is 250pts in the Black Legion list.
That's 62.5pts per Defiler.
That means that 6 Defilers for 400pts is not that bad actually (66.6pts per defiler).

With that in mind, I think we'll trial Matt's suggestion of 6 Defilers for 400pts as the core formation.
I'll change the ASAP. Any games played in the meantime would be good to trial the 6x Defilers/400pts formation if possible.

Cheers,
Steve.

Another option would be to put the 4-strong defiler formation in the support options and place the armoured formation in the core options.

That is an interesting idea settra but I'm still keen to keep the Defilers in the Core section for now. The Defiler formation change will effect activation count and that will change how the army plays. Playtests will show if there is an issue.

Changes to V2.5a
5th March 2014
- Increased the Defiler Assault Pack to a formation of 6 for 400pts (as per Matt-Shadowlord's suggestion)

Download in the original post has been updated with this change.

A battle report on the Iron Warriors,

its of limited used since its not using regular tourney rules, but its pretty close to it.

viewtopic.php?f=84&t=27042&p=513862#p513862

as i say in the post above, for me the unit that allways performs more than expected is the decimator, in avery game the MW barrage does great carnage.

Thanks again for the report.
It's good to see how things work in non-standard situations/scenarios as well.
The Iron Warriors were fairly relentless as they advanced on the Marines.
Great stuff!

Just a couple of proofreading items. Not sure if they've already been mentioned.

If the Siegelord Titan's tail is meant to be identical to the Ravager's, it's missing its ranged attack.
The second sentence of the Siegelord Titan's critical hit effect should say Siegelord rather than Ravager.

No, IW are a specialised siege force. In this case in an attacking form

Thanks for the proofreading Heavens To Betsy!
Much appreciated.

The whole barrage weapons with teleporting formations is one of the situations that I'm hoping to see play-tests focusing on.

Well i've got my two Terminator units of 6 painted up, a grand battery, and am working on more barrage in the form of bombers and decimators so I'll probably be playing in that style here in the next few weeks once we get into our new place.

Personally I'm for Imperial Fists getting them. But that said regular SM don't generally have bassies because they gave them up to the Imperial Guard. Iron Warriors did kinda skip that step. And being seige obsessed would probably have held onto theres unlike the other traitor legions.

The Iron Warriors V2.5a has Basilisks and Daemonic Artillery (which are similar to Whirlwinds but with IC, Fearless, Inv Save and 4+ armour).
There are no Medusas in the list.
