I like this way a lot.

Anecdotically, Some years ago, I collected, converted and painted 100+ cultists for my Word Bearers army, and finished them all just months before GW wiped them from the list.
That killed my enthusiasm for the game stone dead. It still is.

I would prefer this method, too. LatD armies are quite laborious (I am in the beginning of building one). If someone has went to the trouble of building such an army, I would feel for them if we decided to scrap the list.

Ok, so, unless anyone else really wants to do it, I'll use my enforced hotel residency of next week to draw up an initial Damned and the Lost list for discussion and critique.

Would be the first time I have built this much before having it go under. I need lots of cultists, demons, and demon engines in the same list, so if that is in there, fine, I'm good.

I think we should run LatD and its successores in parallel until they stabilize, then revisit whether LatD should be scrapped entirely. It needs minimal maintenance, so removing it doesn't free up resources and upsets those with armies built around the current list.

Lists don't need to be scrapped.

If a list is approved it can be basically left alone. Never to be altered again.
Take for example the Salamanders Space Marine army list. If i want to swap the Imperial Navy aircrafts for say Storm Eagles and Storm Talons i could just create a new list. perhab snoone will play this as it isn't different enough but better this than to de-approve a stable list.

For what it is worth, I think the main problem is the severe restrictions (1:1) forcing you to rely heavily on mechanized covens with Traitor Guard Support formations. Despite being a "kitchen-sink" list, it is the most restrictive Epic list I have ever come across. 1:1 ratio between one core formation and the plethora of support formations plus faction rules. Basically, you need scouts, AA and T-bolts to make it work. The daemon engines (that should be the reason you play the list in the first place) see less use. If you could move what you call Lost and the Damned in that direction, I think it could be worth the effort.

For traitor guards, I think the Vraks list is a good example of a traitor IG with flavour. Straight-up traitors could just as well use the Steel Legion list. The problem is to come up with a traitor theme and stick to it.

I'm with Fredmans and novemberrain.

Don't restart the list or we will end up with a new 'squat situation' where we now have taken a massive step backward.

Alter LotD list like Fredman says by getting rid of the stupid 1:1 restriction and then playtest.

Nearly all the approved lists have been updated

For now I propose to follow this plan
Latd to be updated fixing units and points
Cultist list to be developed -less imperial kit more daemon engines. MikeT has volunteered to put this together

Sounds like a reasonable approach. Maybe add Fredmans suggestion about the 1:1 ratio.

Maybe but there is no pressing need to do it.

That was my starting point; strip out the IG stuff, drop the ratio to 1:2 or 1:3 then maybe look at some cultist specific units or formations.
