What should we do with Helltalons

On a fighter bomber the 45cm AA shot doesn't really fit with the ranges of other AA weaponry, the option we've looked at so far is to drop the range of the AA shot.

Its been suggested that another option would be to reclassify it as a Bomber thereby removing the ability to intercept

hell talons are nippy little things. fighter bomber is definitely the right stat, because it allows them to disengage better. they are, without question, more maneuverable than marauders and marine landing crafts.

also, and here's a big thing, forgeworld SPECIFICALLY lists them as "Hell Talon Chaos Fighter Bomber"

if "make them bombers" is to become the change (and i really hope it doesnt, because the 45cm range on a ground attack is still bizarre, and because i think it's great having the ability to intercept, i just wish it wasnt a much better option than their supposed main purpose)
but if that is to be the case, i'd prefer it to have the "cannot intercept" special rule, to allow it to atleast flee better once it's dropped its load

Putting heltalons in the bomber category would seem to me to be a bit drastic. If they must be modified at all, shortening the range on the lascannon shot should be it. Making them as maneuverable as a harbinger doesn't pass the sniff test, as alluded to above.

In terms of model size they are comparable to marauders though, in game terms nobody else has 2 fighter options or jump straight from fighter-bomber to super heavy bomber

Perhaps but they are specifically referred to as FBs and the fluff talks about the vector thrust engines giving them excellent maneuvering.

The 30cm range was, I thought, decided a long time ago and I don't know that we need to bring it up again.

Bomber is the next best solution.
But i would prefer a "Can't use the Intercept or Combat Air Patrol orders." or"Can only use the Ground Attack order." in the notes section but give it Fighter as speed.

A majority of people can be wrong :D Besides, currently you have a plurality and not a majority. :-)

Making it a Bomber is not in fitting with the background of the vehicle though. Its clearly intended to fit the FB role. The 30cm range is a better solution that suddenly asking Chaos pilots forget how to use their vector trust engines :-)

Chaos has a Fighter, FB and Bomber already. If the Helltalon has a balance issue then it needs to be addressed some other way than this.

Definitely in favour of keeping it a Fighter Bomber.
30cm on the AA is also a very good idea.
