So i'm working towards making a bloody hand list. This list is very attractive to me because it feels like a regimented chaos guard army, not a cultist guard army. It feels more organized with a solid core, and some really nice upgrades that give it a unique flavor. Gore mages are fantastic, snipers, and anti tank units... love the shock and awe with disrupt.

First question for JTG or anyone else familure with the list.

Mechanised infantry unit, i can add 3 gore mages. Are the gore mages assumed to squeeze in the transport with the other units or do they get half tracks added in to carry them aswell.

More questions to come!

So a quick list that i worked up, i'm not happy with it i think i'm going to do some changes but wanted to get some feed back.

Arch heretic:
Upgrade Master Thaumaturge
Coven
Fire support
Flak
+4 lesser daemons
450 pts

Mechanised warband:
Upgrade to SteG4
375 pts

Heavy Tank Warband:
Flak
525 pts (BTS)

Death Brigade:
SteG4
275 pts

Arty Detachment:
200 pts

Arty Detachment:
200 pts

Warpstrike Detachment:
225 pts

Sabre Detachment:
150 pts

Corrupted Leviathan:
400 pts

Hell Razors:
200 pts

Total: 3000

I feel like i have way to much AA and not enough TK weapons, is 6 AA platforms with 45cm AA5+ each enough to cover from a garrisoning position? I feel like the hell razors are junk and i should be able take those out and the flak tank units and maybe take some super heavy TK tanks.

Obviously this list is flawed... i added the leviathan in because damnit they are cool but is it really worth it?

C&C welcome

JTG i have a question about your list.

SPECIAL RULE - Tank Hunter
Units with the Tank Hunter rule are exceptionally good at targeting armoured vehicles. To represent this, when performing the Sustained Fire or Advance orders their weapons AT values are improved by 1.

I don't see any units with the special rule tank hunter in the list though?

I'm assuming the anti tank unit should have it but was there others? I'm using the list in the 2012 compendium.

hey BH: the 2012 compendium list is the most up to date list. i should really put those little tweaks into the PDF

if you take upgrades on a mech company, aside from death brigades who come with them, they are without transport, so they have to walk (that was intentional so that the mech companies are not the mega-blobs the infantry companies are)

Tank Hunter is a rule only on the slaughtersword, to make use of their 1BP tank killer weapon. if you're feeling light on the TK, thats where you want to get it.

as to your testlist, i'd hesitate to take the leviathan in that list, because you really want the list to be built around it. you've also got not very much in the way of daemons for so much coven in the big formation.

as for ackack, i'm not sure about the sabres at the moment. they're not as good as hydras for their points, but they're kinda cool so i dont want to ditch them entirely. my initial feelings on the hell razors were that they where junk too, but having used them they've done very well to clear out enemy aircraft, or atleast the lighter ones.

i'd probably drop the leviathan and the sabres (two flak tanks and the hell razors should cover it) and use the points to buy up a slaughtersword and some daemons, if you can squeeze it, i love adding death brigades into the mech companies, fearless and great in a firefight is exactly what you want in a fast moving reserve unit

the other thing you're missing at the moment, is scouts to protect you from terminators. garrissonable warpstrikes mean you're less vulnerable to that than many lists, but you probably still want some to mess with people.

also remember that daemons are bought seperately, so they dont contribute towards BTS building, and if you hve multiple summoner formations, you can pop them out through either.

So my arch heretic was upgrade to a master thaumaturge he gets blood symbiosis, and then i added one gore mage unit with blood symbiosis aswell, does that mean i get +2d3 to my summoning?

I'll make a serious army list that i think will be competitve so you can take a look at it and tell me what you think. I have no practical skill as i havent gotten a real game in yet, just some lets sit down and read the rulebook a bunch because i have no clue what to do. I do understand the basic's of making a list though.

As far as the scouts go, i don't really know how the scout rule works to protect myself from termies. But i see that snipers and outriders have the scout rule, i'll try and work some of them into my list. I have seen people discussing scout screens and such, and the idea is not lost on me i just lack practical experience of seeing them in action.

The garrisonable warpstrikes? if i garrison my warpstrikes does that mean they can't be teleported on because they are near an objective? I feel that would be the only reason i didn't tuck them in a corner somewhere because of their unlimited range until they fired, then march them to contest an objective..... as i type this i realize i'm wasting an activation in the back doing nothing after they shoot. I will give this more though, i do like them though.

you get 2d3 summoming points automatically for having gore mages at all, and each gore mage (and the master thaumaturge) adds 1d3 to the summoning, so the master thaumaturge +3 mages comes out at 6d3 summoning points. very useful for summoning a greater daemon and some fodder before the big assault.

scouts have a 10cm Zone Of Control, and you cannot teleport into an enemy ZoC, so if you position the units 14cms away from your terminatorbait units, the terminators will need to teleport atleast 24cms away from the unit they want to attack. thus protecting them
the reason garrissonable warpstrikes are nasty, is because they can be placed on overwatch before the game begins. if terminators drop to attack them (as is the prime target in these cases) the warpstrikes can simply shoot their missiles at the terminators. kinda a waste, but it tends to result in dead terminators who wont try that again next time.

warpstrikes are a great unit, you shoot them at the toughest thing the enemy has left, then put them on overwatch near the blitz. then every turn you can keep putting them on overwatch which soaks up an activation when you need it, and its 3 more bodies the enemy needs to kill. they wont do much once they've shot, but most enemies (rightly) consider them to have been worth their points once they've fired, so if they're going to try to kill them, they do so before they get a chance to let rip.
