At the moment all factions hate each other within 15cm, so get a +1 modifier to activate outside that.

The popular option seems to be to remove hatred altogether, opinions, ideas?

If we do go along that route I don't see it as necessary for LATD to automatically follow, that would be up to Tiny-Tim

I still like the flavour of this and it doesn't come into the equation a lot but does make some of the nastier builds a bit more risky to play with.

Two options i can see:

Disallow the opposing gods in the same army

or

Remove hatred all together

Played against chaos only 8 or 9 times so far, and out of all those games hatred didn't come once into play.

95% of army lists taken don't mix hated factions in my experience.

And what happens if it is removed? Will people start to take advantage of the benefits of those faction troops, finally being able to fight side by side in an assault for an uber combo?

*shrug*

IIRC EUK effectively removed / mitigated the drawbacks of factions by reducing the area of effect down to 15cm. Hasn't seemed to have changed much.

I always played with mixed armies and never had a problem with it except for once of twice. Hatred was pretty easy to avoid

I don't think there should be an outright ban on mixing factions. But I would nt want a free for all as I would like at least some recognition of background fluff.

A rule that just limited hatred to opposing gods would be preferable to me to limit Khorne + Slaanesh and Nurgle + Tzeentch combos.

Cheers

I am curious as to understand what combos people think happen that

1. are game changing
2. have an adverse effect on the balance of a force

... by removing the hatred rule?

As for the other idea, what is irredeemably lost from placing a restriction on having opposite factions in the same force?

Depends on what fluff you read. The current 40K fluff really makes no mention of it anymore and its not been a factor in the fluff for some time.

If there was some sort of benefit to playing a mono-power force then I would see the point of Hatred rules but at the moment they contribute nothing to the game and nothing to army design.

All they do is complicate determining activation rolls.

I can't see anything that gets lost with this. The rule has never stopped me from building and playing multi-power forces or stopped me from doing mono-power forces.

Correct

If a rule does nothing for a list other than to cause confusion or mistakes, then it should simply be removed.

There may be a little noise for a small while, but then it would be back to business as usual.

So much discussion over a little thing that so many agree should be removed.

I'm completely ambivilent.

It's a mild piece of flavour, but if lost I don't think it'd really affect things much.
