| Post subject: | Fearless on Greater Daemons superfluous? |
Isn't the Fearless ability on Greater Daemons quite of wasted? There seems to be no moment in game play where they can make use of it. They can't even absorg "hack down its" as you aren't allowed to place these on Fearless units. |

Mostly useless, but not entirely. They remain on board until the end phase, so other units will potentially interact with them. Like all massed fearless troops they can be used effectively to block enemy movement. Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain...

Not if their formation looses an assault. Then they are removed immediately after hack down hits. Also the moment their formation breaks the Daemons are removed too. From BL1.1.3 Summoned Units Quote: When a formation breaks any summoned units in the formation are lost in the warp and considered destroyed. No word that the Daemons remain with the just broken formation until the end phase |

If you lose an assault you can take hackdowns on the daemons before they disappear |

No. As Daemons are Fearless you aren't allowed to "soak up" hack down hits with tem. Quote from 2.1.3 Fearless: Quote: Note that other units in the formation that are not fearless will be affected normally by additional hits for Blast markers or losing an assault or watever - just don't allocate any of the hits to the units that are immune, but hand them out as normal to units that are not.

It was specifically ruled (FAQed?) a while back that lesser daemons at least (which aren't fearless) could take the hackdowns. All daemons are destroyed at once if the unit is broken (after hackdowns) |

The Master FAQ only says this: Quote: Q: If a formation with daemons loses an assault, do you kill off the daemons that return to the warp BEFORE assessing the extra casualties caused by losing the assault? A: No. The extra casualties go on before the loser breaks. The daemons only disappear once the formation is broken. Which is an irrelevant question too as you can't place autokill hits on Daemons due to Fearless. |

Right. Should have refered to Greater Daemons only. So: Fearless on Greater Daemons seems to be pretty superfluous. |

In most current lists yes but in a list with independent GD then no. Much like if the only SM was White Scars for terminators+teleport |

it'll be important for the demon world list, where demon stands operate as mostly, normal units. |

In lists, such as the Daemon world, when the daemons aren't summoned and therefore behave differently |

Funnily afaik as the Black Legion and Lost and the Damned lists where made no one thought about a Daemon World army list
