I´m planning to do a testgame later today with some of the unit changes, based on Lord I´s BL playtest.doc

Specifically I´ll be looking at the Desecrator in garrisons, aircraft and the new Oblits. To-do would be Vindicators and Stalkers in a more mechanized list.

BL 3000 points:

200 HellTalons
200 Hellblades
300 Feral
300 Feral

640 (BTS) 4xChaos Termies, DP (Khorne,Wings), Pact, Icon, 3x Oblits
425 Retinue, Desecrator, Pact, DP (Warlord,Nurgle)
375 Retinue, Desecrator, Pact (Nurgle)
150 Forlorn Hope, Pact (Nurgle)
150 Forlorn Hope, Pact (Nurgle)

260 Daemon Pool: 13x LD

9 activations

Tactics are obviously garrison the infantry, teleport-hammer with the Termies, rush in and plug gaps/break through with the Ferals

Opposing will be Eldar:

000 Avatar
050 Wraithgate

650 Revenants
300 Nightwings

200 Guardian Warhost (3x Heavy Wpn Platforms + 3x Support Wpn Platforms)
200 Guardian Warhost (3x Heavy Wpn Platforms + 3x Support Wpn Platforms)
200 Guardian Warhost (3x Heavy Wpn Platforms + 3x Support Wpn Platforms)

250 Falcon Troupe (4xFalcon, 1xFirestorm)
200 Windrider Host (4xJetbikes, 2x Vypers)
200 Windrider Host (4xJetbikes, 2x Vypers)
200 Windrider Host (4xJetbikes, 2x Vypers)
100 Rangers (4x)
175 Nighspinners
175 Nighspinners

12+1 activations

One of my typical Eldar setups, basically revolves around getting the Guardians into cover and in support positions, then striking with the Windriders.

Comments, glaring errors? :p

You should be able to somewhat unusually rule the sky's with so little of the excellent Eldar ground flak about (we aim for around 500 points of flak now in most lists it seems). Just have to get them to come out and play then hit them with the 6 4+ attacks - will all come down to who goes first I reckon. Or use one formation to draw them out if they are on cap (fighters could do this - the threat of 6 AP4+ attacks is a hard one for the eldar to swallow), jink lots and hit them with ground flak and/or the other planes (or go jump some infantry in cover or mixed ap/lv target etc etc).

You will also need to sort out if aircraft can flak other aircraft when they stop in range and arc if they aren't the target. Oh and try and set up the fb's in a back to back fashion as that way you get to cover them with their own flak (sort of - at the very least you can then channel the eldar fighters, or use a board edge for defence).

Why the icon bearer instead of chaos champ? Witht he chaos champ you could go for those pesky WE with a tasty 4-12 extra demons with the chosen.

Otherwise I reckon you have too few demons for all 4 formations to play with.

So whats the strategy to stop the more mobile eldar taking the initiative?

Another Firestorm could be embedded in the Falcons, remember the Revenants have 4x 45cm AA6+ as well, not big, but also not bad. If you count this, and the Nightwings, it gets into the 500 points neighbourhood AA-wise.

The Icon was chosen over the Champ as I reckon the mortal weakness of Chaos Terminators is breaking and dying under a pile of BM. The formation is obviously tooled up to deal with this, having Fearless on 4 out of 7 units, but I´d prefer to keep them in the fight via a daemon shield.

I rate their hitting power as easily sufficient, any more units probably won´t make it into CC.

The current HellTalons have "only" 30cm range on the Lascannons, plus the ruling was that defensive AA fire from aircraft is only applied when an enemy aircraft _stops_ its approach move in the arc, rather then _passing through it_ as with ground AA. I´ll keep an eye on it anyway.

I know about the stops bit - the question is is it stops in any aircrafts arc or just your target formation?

Unbelievably, this is still murky! From the 2008 handbook, section 4.2:

Note that aircraft carrying out a
ground attack mission that are armed with AA weapons
may shoot at enemy interceptors that fall within the AA
weapon’s fire arc.

"Interceptors" is of course not further defined, any half competent rules-lawyer will argue that this refers to enemy aircraft carrying out an "Interception" order, but not CAP or Ground Attack  ???
Or whatever suits them in the given situation.

The spirit of the rule IMO would be to allow fire on units capping/intercepting the air formation in question, while all attacks on other air or ground units would not elicit AA fire.

Well I like big furballs, allowing cap to cap cap ( :) ) and so forth. So we allow 'stationary' aircraft to fire at currently activated attackers (so no having a second pop at previous activations), though after ground flak has had a go.
