Got in a game testing the Alpha Legion against Drek's Steel Legion a weekend ago and have just now got around to doing a batrep...  at least I didn't tease this time!  *laugh*

Battlefield:

4x6
Alpha Legion chose edge deployment.

Deployment:

Slayer of Hope was declared to be coming in on Turn 1 and held both Infiltrators formations in Dreadclaws.

Sacred Fury was declared to be arriving on Turn 2.

Alpha Legion kept the Chosen in reserve.

Alpha Legion garrisoned the Coven 2 and the Defilers well forward, in cover and on overwatch.

Steel Legion garrisoned both Rough Rider Platoons, as well as the Sentinels, with the latter on overwatch.

The remaining deployment is shown below:

Turn 1

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: Alpha Legion

The Slayer of Hope arrives overhead, bombarding the Mechanized Infantry Company and bracketing it with both Dreadclaw drops, with a bit over over-spill on Rough Riders 1. ?All-in-all, 4 Chimeras, 3 Infantry, and 1 Rough Rider are scythed down in the attack.


Infiltrators 2 hesitate, ensure of the plan, but the Warlord eventually gets them to attack the Mechanized Infantry Company, trashing 1 Hellhound, 1 Chimera, and 5 Guardsmen, sending the Imperials fleeing for their lives? unfortunately, 3 Alpha Legionnaires have also been slain, and the Chaos formations breaks as well, hunkering down into cover.

The Regimental HQ decides to end this foolishness at once and engages Infiltrators 1 in a firefight. ?Three Guardsmen pay the ultimate price to completely eliminate the traitorous Space Marines.


The Defilers then sustain fire on the Storm Troopers, scoring many hits? all of which are saved.

The Storm Troopers double forward to the cover of a building, but Coven 2 shoots down a Valkyrie and the 3 Blast markers they Toy Soldiers have suppress the remaining skimmers preventing any return fire on the cultists.

The Traitor Russ Company advances to fire at their Imperial counterpart and manage to cripple one of the enemy tanks.


The Tank Company tries to return the favour, confirms their orders, and advances, but is only able to place a Blast marker on the enemy armour.

Coven 1 mounts up on their stolen Chimeras and double down the road, deploying into defensible positions, they fire on the Storm Troopers and kill 1 Trooper and down 1 Valkyrie!

Rough Rider 1 marches to secure Chaos Objective 2.

The Warlord and his Retinue double to fire on Rough Riders 2, but do no damage.

The Marauders swing down to bomb the Retinue and 1 Legionnaire is killed in the blasts.

The Sentinels double on the Retinue and place another Blast marker.

With a "giddy-yup!" Rough Riders 2 engages the Retinue. ?They lose 1 Rider on the way in, and 2 Riders in combat, but completely wipe out the Chaos Commander before breaking themselves?


End of Turn

Infiltrators 1 and the Mechanized Infantry both fail to rally, staring at each other from the ruins? and Rough Rider 2 stays hiding as well.

Turn 2

The Chosen appear within the Bastion near the Steel Legion Russ Company? and get 2 Blast markers for their trouble.


Strategy Roll: Alpha Legion

The Defilers try to double over to help the Chosen, but fail to make any headway and shoot at the Storm Troopers instead? knocking down another Valkyrie and breaking the formation!

The Marauders are unsure who to attack, so the Supreme Commander orders them to make a ground attack on the Chosen, but their heavy armour protects them and they only suffer a Blast marker.

The Chosen rush forward to engage the loyal Russ, tearing three of them apart, but the stirring words of the Commissar allow the Imperials to stand firm and they send the Chosen packing, leaving one of their squads behind to be crushed beneath the treads of the might tanks of the Imperium!


The Traitor Russ try to do what the Chosen couldn't and sustain fire on the Tank Company, but they do no damage at all.

The Sentinels double to fire on Coven 1, but they too do no damage.

The Regimental HQ gets ready to mount up, but there's a comm. Breakdown and they regroup instead.

Calling on the power of Nurgle, Coven 2 summons 4 Plaguebearers and engages the slightly intermingled Sentinels and Rough Riders 1? only the two fearless Commissars survive to move off, broken, but still brave, while the cultist are completely unharmed.


Coven 1 doubles on the enemy Russ Company, but does no damage.

The Russ Company responds with a half-hearted sustain fire action on Coven 1, but suppression takes its toll and no kills are scored.

The Sacred Fury appears overhead? and drops a load that completely misses the action?


End of Turn

The Marauders catch 1 Blast marker on the way out.

The Plaguebearers return to the Daemon Pool.

Infiltrators 1 and the Mechanized Infantry again both fail to rally and start talking about quitting the fighting game and settling down on a nice farm.

The Chosen rally, as do both Rough Riders and the Storm Troopers.

Turn 3

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: Alpha Legion (Both sides rolled "1", and the Chaos forces lose 3 Lesser Daemons from the Daemon Pool.)

Coven 1 forgets to summon Daemons as they engage the Russ Company? but they don't need them as only the Commissars Russ survives the horrific onslaught.


The Defilers try to sustain fire again, but fail, so they angrily snap off some shots at the Storm Troopers to no effect.

The Marauders drop bombs on Coven 2 and kill 1 Cultist.

The Regimental HQ advances on Coven 2 and kills 3 Cultists with concentrated fire.

The Traitor Russ Company doubles down the road to fire on the Storm Troopers, killing 1 Trooper.

Coven 2 summons 3 Plaguebearers and? can't figure out what to do with the Warlord dead and all? so they regroup and remove 6 Blast markers? leaving 1.

The last member of Rough Rider 1 tries to march to safety, but fails and breaks.

The Chosen try to double towards the action, but they to fail and get a Blast marker as they slowly trudge forward.

Rough Rider 2 engages Coven 2 in a nasty little clip, taking out 1 Cultist and the Chaos Spawn and suffering 1 death in return, but the battle cries of the Commissar are enough to send the cultists running as the Imperials win by "1", clearing the Cathedral, though the Rough Riders break in triumph.


The beleaguered Storm Troopers engage the intermingled Traitor Russ Company and the Defilers? and actually manage to take out 1 of each before the brave Imperial soldiers are hacked down? and that breaks the Defilers!


End of Turn:

The Mech Infantry Company finally rallies? but Infiltrators 1 doesn't?

In fact, it's pretty bad for the Alpha Legion as neither Coven 2 nor the Defilers rally.

The Imperial Tank Company and Rough Riders 2 also fail to rally.

Turn 4

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: Steel Legion (on a tie)

The Marauders bomb the Traitor Russ, but their armour wards off any damage.

The Regimental HQ advances on the Traitor Russ, stringing out to secure their own Blitz and Objective 1, and they can't do any damage either.


Coven 1 advances to surround the last survivor of the Tank Company and finishes them off, butchering the Commissar.

Rough Rider 1 bravely marches to the Alpha Legion Blitz, hoping to stay out of sight.

The Chosen double on the Regimental HQ and take out 1 Chimera.

The Mech Infantry advance on their old friends, Infiltrators 1? wiping them out with massed gunfire.

Seeing victory within their grasp, the Traitor Russ prepare to advance on the road to a position to fire on the Rough Rider at their Blitz? but the spirits of their tanks betray them so they fire on the Regimental HQ instead? and do nothing?

End of Turn:

Coven 2 fails to rally for the Alpha Legion.

I was never much of a "scenery guy", but I really got bit with the terrain bug and have been cranking stuff out like mad.  *laugh*

Got some interesting projects in the works that should soon come to fruition...
