Hello all, I'm a long time browser but I havent been posting while I havent had access to my epic figures. That has changed recently so I am looking to become more involved in the epic hobby.

I'm starting to paint up my first 3000 points of lost and the damned, and have found some old chimeras for my mechanised coven to trundle around in.

However, I still have a sea of demon engines, left over IG stuff and cultists to bring my army up to 5-6000 at a later date - but no idea as to what to use as proxies for land transporters.

I wondered, what is everyone else using?

I've been using the old "skull-faced" Ork battlewagons, Siegfried tanks from the Siegemasters, and the occasional new Ork battlewagons. ?

I'm tending to stick with Chimeras for the most part as the Land Transporters are LVs and don't give cover to infantry when they're not mounted up.

As well, I usually only mechanize one Coven and garrison the rest.

What's in your planned 3000 point army?

How about the Exodus Wars Transport detachment?  They look like generic enough half-tracks to me.

Thanks for the quick replies!

Chroma -

Seeing as you asked, my 3000 point army is as follows:

3 X Covens, each with demagogue, Icon bearer, demonic pact, 6 cultists, 6 mutants and 2 big mutants. 340 points X 3 = 1020

1 X Coven with demagogue, demonic pact, 11 cultists, 6 chimera and 2 hydra 475 points

2 X Demon assault engines. 300 points X 2 = 600

1 X Lord of Battles. 400 points

1 X Hellfire Cannons. 200 points

Demon Pool. 15 Lesser Demons. 300 points

For a grand total of 2995! :)

As far as I can tell a lack of flack for the mass of footsloggers is going to be a problem, so I am considering whether to model a pair of old stormhammers with some spieky bits and chopped up demon engines as chaos altars, replacing the Lord of Battles (and also getting to add in some traitor sentinels).

That said, I am taken with the idea of masses of khornate demon engines grinding forward, crushing the skulls of their enemies between iron wheels, etc etc

As you can see the army is mostly on foot. I was thinking of, when increasing it to 5000 points, adding a coven in land transporters to accompany the chimera coven. I only have 6 spare chimeras at the moment, most are eaten by the IG army thats my next project or earmarked for AMTL down the line (Im going through all my old epic figures and think I have enough for about 6 armies, all missing a few essential things! Comes from being in epic since SM1)

Dave -

Thanks for the link. Those look ideal! I think I'll order some when the time comes

Edit - I had another question actually related to chaos armies. I have a load of painted fleshounds and was intending to use them with the appendix stats. Did those see much playtesting at all? Are they balanced compared to bloodletters?

In 40K I use one of the old Land Raider models without lascannon. In Epic, I'd do the same if I had enough LRs - I used the latter as the basis of my Land Wasters, my Blood Axe Vindicator AA combo, and an upcoming weirdo model.

GHQ or C in C WWII covered trucks would be best I think. Most other vehicles, aside from the Ork trukks, look a little too armoured to be transports.

Covered trucks like the Opel, M925 or the Gaz

would work really well and are quite distinct so you could still keep any armoured transports for traitor PDF units

C in C is also doing a free shipping offer at the moment

Found a pic of the beastie (on 40K scale) - just a Land Raider sans lascannon. Can be easily done with Epic LRs, if you have enough of them.

Unfortunatly, nice though they are the C&C and GHQ stuff looks a little too small compared with most Epic stuff (I should be able to get some comparison pics if you want)
I would go with the Exodus Wars ones.

Van, do you need some more plastic LRs?

The perils of attempting to use 1:285th scale minis. Are the trucks that much smaller?

I guess they would look like toys next to Chimeras wouldn't they?

I'm having the same thoughts as well, and i think I'm going with modifying some of the small ligt tanks from Axis and Allies Mini's. The Japanese and French have some that wouldn't look that out of scale. Bren carriers may serve as well

They are nice looking half tracks. I had n't seen those before- most of E/W is still new to me.

My onlky thought on using these E/W halftracks for L&TD is that they look a bit too organised military for my tastes. They would be great for a traitor IG army that has only just turned.

My own L&TD army (when eventually finished- it is not in the top 3 list of next armies to finish so will be some time away) is going to have a lot of the demon engines and beastmen as cultists. So personally I want something a bit more chaotic- so I will probably go with old Ork transports- that skull emblem will look cool if painted in suitable Khornate colours.

But if I was ever doing a traitor IG army with many normal IG units such as tanks and artillery, then those E/W halftracks would be perfect.

Just my 2p.

Cheers

James

What you really need are 6mm scale buses.

The original idea was that they were being transported in civilian transports that had been commandeered into use
