Hi, I was wondering if anyone had posted a Word Bearers list? I couldn't find one on the Wiki so I cam up with a few ideas myself. It seems best to keep changes very small and not to add much in the way of rules or units. So basicly I was thinking the differences in the list compared to BL should be: Pro - Better at summoning daemons Con - Less heavy support So with this in mind, my initial idea was to add Chaos Altar as an upgrade to the basic retinue and include the Dark Apostle as a replacement for the SC. Same as SC but +50points (instead of free) gains Inspiring and Augment Summoning +D3 The downside would be to remove the Deathwheel from the list and limit the Assault Company from 0-2 to 0-1. What does everyone think? Any good? too much/not enough? I would also like to make a rule which would alow Undivded retinues summon Daemons from multiple gods (for example Plauge Bearers and Bloodletters in the same formation), although its probably best not to invent new rules for a minor list. Thoughts? Comments? |

P.S I realise this couldn't be lower on the list of Epic rules development but my Word Bearers are going to fully painted soon and abit of feedback would be great before I started testing them myself ![]() |

I'd say that sounds about right. My thoughts ran to: Dark Apostle - chaplain equivalent character upgrade Some sort of added access to Augment Summoning - maybe making a Champion cheaper or an automatic part of the Retinue. Definitely allowing them as upgrades for more formations. The Chaos Altar is a good idea as well. All undivided but allow them to summon from any faction. The formation "counts as" being the same faction as its daemons until the daemons go away. No summoning Flamers and a Bloodthirster in the same formation and daemons near hated daemons would be harder to control. I'd cut the BL WEs altogether. Just use chaos titans and the Altar. |

Nice, that Daemon summoning rule sounds much better and easy to remember. Although it does make Word Bearers much for flexible than BL. Although getting rid of Decimators aswell could off set the advantage. But I do like Decimators and am I right in thinking they arn't BL? I thought they'd be common to all Legions. Although I don't really know much about it's fluff... |

I like your ideas. I'd give them ago and if things appear balanced try taking them to a small tournament to give others a chance to give a reaction to them. But I like the pros and cons (I would drop the decimator as well) |

Way, way back in the day... the idea was to expand on the idea in the Defiler background that Abaddon ordered a lot of daemon engines built. Jervis wanted some funky, non-Imperial, non-chaos titan, war engines for the list. He wanted to dump the titans entirely on the premise that the only reason they wrote the Horus Heresy background was because at that point the company only had enough money to make one set of models and that they would have made separate forces had they had the resources. Decimators and Deathwheels were the replacements. Since that original concept, things have changed substantially. Obviously, chaos titans were included. The focus on Abaddon and the 13th Crusade was watered down substantially. About the only part that remains is that it is a Black Legion list. It's hard to say what the background is or should be. Personally, I still tend to think of them as BL-specific. |
