Defiler proxies

CAV-I have this.  Missile pods need to be cut & reglued in "closed" position.  Main body is a bit smaller than a Land Raider.

CinC:  Unsure of size, may be a bit on the small side,

Mage Knight:  This one may need the most work, but is also the cheapest.

Decimator Proxy: I have this as well.  Looks the part, size is perfect, but the barrel is too slender to be sufficiently menacing.  Needs to be replaced.

I think the point of that is that DP are infantry and you can easily trick out an infantry stand to represent one without an appreciable amount of converting.  Selection of models and paint job should suffice.

Aye, I was thinking of the Chaos Aspiring Champion model, which could easily stand in for a DP, ALA Guard's plastic Commander / Commissar.

There'd be plenty of proxies you could do for a Daemon Prince: some of the old chaos familiars come to mind, or even a 40K Chaos Space Marine!

The defiler is, to my mind, the only really tricky one, and the only new model that we could really use, although that Reaper CAV thing looks promising.

http://www.reapermini.com/gallery/cav/7010_G why not this as a defiler?

I believe the Scorpion is quite a bit larger than the Spider.   To get an idea of the addtional size, they both use the same legs.  The Scorpion has 3 pairs, while the Spider only has 2.  The Scorpion also extends quite a bit past the front pair while the Spider does so only a small amount.

Of course if your gaming group is OK with it, the Scorpion def. has a more menacing look, plus an extra set of legs that could be converted into Battle Claws.

The problem I ran into when working my BL army up was that you need not only the Chaos Lord, you need the Chaos Champion...as well as the Icon Bearer and the Demon Prince.  So I used the Lord as is, Champ as is, scratch built some Icon bearers... and so far have a couple of the old metal Chaos DP's that I use for that purpose.  Not elegant, but it works.   :)

If you look at the link I "quoted" in my post you will see it goes to a page with a walker type vehicle called a Scorpion that has 3 pairs of legs. ?

If you look at the original post that quote came from, mageboltrat has "quoted" one of my posts in which there is a link to a walker type vehicle called a Spider which has 2 pairs of legs.

I was comparing the 2 Walkers not arachnids. ? ?

For champions I have used the Chaos sorceror model with his staff removed and replaced with a sword.

Death Wheel - loosely followed Warmaster Nice's method of  circular bases back to back with spikes from the 40k chaos vehicle accessory sprue

Obliterators - old metal SM robots

Defiler - cental chassis of MK1 Land raider (ie the bit between the tracks) as the body, with plastic Sm dread legs as the top half of the legs, hooks from the 40k chaos vehicle sprue as bottom half of legs, and the claw sets from old plastic Ork battlewagons as the front claws, then suitable guns.
Its not perfect, certainly not anywhere near WM Nice's but most of the parts are easily available and its really easy to do

For my Decimators I've used the the Forgeworld 40k Cyclops as a base, it's about the right size for a SHT and fits the original description of it as a WWI tank.

well it does depend on wether you coun't the claws as legs. I personally don't, so that would be 2 claws and 6 legs on a scorpion

Decimators:  I have a Stormsword company that I use.  For some reason, they are frequently cheaper on eBay than any of the other SHT designs.  I think I paid $16US plus shipping for 3.

I also Proxy Slaanesh Knights as Defilers with my Black Legion/EC force.

Aha, except for the fact that there are 4 pairs of legs on a scorpion in addition to the claws, only the front pair tend to be small and hidden :)

Apologies, slow work day and feeling really pedantic

On topic- I think the CAV spider would make a class defiler once suitably spikefied :)
