I am also in the process of building and clearing room for my new hobby area (relegated to the garage by the wife). No doubt the Khorne force (quite large at this point in time) will start to get painted after this is built.

...and the process is underway

The first part of the area reaching completion

That is 99 spaces paints to go in! Now to plan for the next steps:

1. Clean up the surrounding areas
2. Move all the paints and brushes to the new paint area
3. Finalise and set up PC next to painting area (Internet, Taccoms, Vassal, tv shows etc)
4. Organise a fridge not to be more than ~3 metres from the work area
5. Organise a way to cover everything when not in use
6. Set up side bench for all the Dremel tools and the like
7. Develop a strict procedure that no cats are allowed in my garage

Update this more as stuff gets cleared

That's an unusual pic of a hobby area Frogbear. You don't often get to see them in their natural state like that before the hobbyist nests in and begins to deposit layers of wargaming related strata over all flat surfaces in close proximity

I have a question here.

Why the defiler formation doesn't have the onslaught upgrade available?

Also, what is the point of giving teleport as an upgrade for the terminators?

I have a question here.

Why the defiler formation doesn't have the onslaught upgrade available?

Hi Shermo. That is a good question. The simple answer is that there should really be no reason why it should not be available.

Here is some background: I initially tested the Slaughterfiends at 25cm move. With the Defilers at 20cm, the Blood Slaughteres were then on the slow side and I had trouble justifying the speed in the unit. Since those tests however, the Slaughterfiend is back to 20cm along with the Defiler, so they could now potentially be justified again.

Also there is the factor of "what do they add to the unit"? Against the Slaughterfiends, Maybe a little bit extra armour, yet more importantly, numbers for a cheaper points cost.

So after all that, consider the 'Onslaught' upgrade added to the Defiler Engines Formation   :agree:

That was an awesome pick up dude. Thanks for your help in reading through the list

Also, what is the point of giving teleport as an upgrade for the terminators?

The problem with Cult lists in the past is the activation count. They are simply not competative due to their points costs.

With this army, we have had to find ways to reduce costs while keeping the army balanced and making it competative. Ideas that we worked on and eventually used were reducing the cost of Berserkers who did not use Drop Pods, and add that difference back into the Drop Pod cost. With Terminators, they would normally teleport; using Terminators on the ground however was an obvious disadvantage, so we decided that you gained a discount for using them as 'ground-pounders'. Hence the addition of the Teleport Upgrade.

Thinking about it, I could just add it as part of the datafax, yet then it may be forgotten, so probably best to keep it in the Army List section.

With all the discounts placed to using the 'ground pounding force' it enables the little extras to be purchased within a force (maybe even one or two extra units), to boost up the army, therby making it competative, while still retaining a balance.

I hope this answers that querey sufficiently?

Much of the discussion on paying for options not used in a ground pounder force can be found in the space marine thread going at the moment. You could almost say that this list pioneers those ideas.

Thanks for your questions Shermo. Such interest always assists the list to grow towards completion.

Cheers......   :agree:

Yes well I have many thoughts about the list now :)

The biggest activation count seems to be from 5 Hell plane squadrons, 2 berserkers, 2 chosen, 4 beastmen and 200 points more for upgrades.

Is 13 max with points to boost units a good or a bad thing TRC?

Any other thoughts when trying to build a force?

(btw, I will get to the battle report hopefully later today)

It is a total mess at the moment as I moved just about all my junk in the house down to the garage. This will take me years to clean up now...

Yay, i kept* grouping my bloodslaughts with defiler engines and then realises i couldn't. Great news, and more importantly an excuse to make myself more models :agree:

*list theorising and the occasional minor skirmish against my black legion.

As they said in the movie Jaws: "We're going to need a bigger boat"

Some of my paints are 20 years old!

Mine only 15. And they still are in good condition! ALL! But ALL of the 2nd generation paints (those with the screw cap) have dried. Even some of the current 3rd generation ones have dried.

Well V1.3 has just been updated with the 'Onslaught' Upgrade for the 'Defiler Engines' and Shermo has his name in the 'Acknowledgments'   :agree:

The latest update placed it to V1.3.1 (shown on the front cover), however the link & document name will remain V1.3 for the sake of ease.

Cheers....

Same here. The old paints retain a good seal, however you cannot open them with your hands as the tabs have broken off. You need to use needle-nose pliers to pries them open.

For a hobby company, you would expect GW to take some pride in providing paint bottles that do not allow air intake.

Hmm the screw top ones are strange, most of mine dried up as well, but ive still got a few screw pots that have been going strong for 4+ years without drying at all. The blood red for my world eaters for example was all from a screw top pot :agree:

Two more list points:

Bloodgors are not allowed the transport upgrade, this makes sense they would probably be far too disorganised to use it properly. However, a berserker formation with bloodgors IS allowed the transport upgrade and you would need to buy enough transports for the gors, which on their own cant use transports.

Also, im not sure if this is a problem but if defiler engines now have onslaught, i could make a formation 11 strong with 7 slaughter fiends and 4 bloodslaughts, this does 22 MW CC attacks (+11 normal), that seems like a lot.
