I recently saw some posters on the SG forum saying that Andy said all we're getting is the plastic infantry sprue and that all the other chaos molds have been lost or destroyed is this true? Because after all the tripe we were handed about model availabillity totally dictating what could and what couldnt be in the lists and then this would seem to be nothing but  a pile of BS.

Afraid so. Thread is here:

Games Day

Thanks for pointing out where to find the confirmation. This bums me out to no end. I cant tell you how many times I heard the excuse while working on the Chaos lists, we cant include those in the list because of model availabillity, but here we see that that had nothing to do with it as they have aparently chucked most of the molds for the models or are straight lying about what they do and dont have.  Every time I think they cant get worse GW proves me wrong.

Well ... so much for that ... ?Would liked to have had those Chaos Bikes & Dreads that T/S painted eons ago ... in the "Flesh" ! ?See what other 6mm Sci-fi might have or will have ? ?Future DRM and Baccus ? ?Current ranges - SJM, MAATAC, etc., etc.   ?

Wasn't the reason Andy Hall stated for the L&D list being downgraded from official (around May/June I think) was that their weren't going to be enough models available ie daemon engines etc. - surely the BL list is now in the same situation? - no greater daemons, princes, defilers, death wheels, dreads, bikes, obliterators

Greater Daemons, Bikes and Dreads at least have alternative models.

Hopefully once the Chaos sprue is rereleased ForgeWorld will fill in a few spots in the range.

EDIT:

The good thing is I had it direct from Andy H that the plastic sprue will be rereleased in February.

I won't get too hopeful as I went to last years Gamesday to talk to JJ and AH and they assured me Chaos would be released August 2006 and would be the plastic sprues, unreleased metal models and 1-2 new sculpts. In May AH denied that he had ever said that - so I will believe it when I see it.

I don't think that realistically we can hope for anything from FW - they have not released any Epic not tied in with AI for over a year and the only hinted at models are new Titans which they have been hinting at for 2+ years.

What was cut due to model availability?  The only thing I can think of that was removed due to model availability were some of the daemon options which would be nice but were hardly critical.

I remember hearing this as a reason something would end up not being in the tournament list but instead just being in the collectors section more than once, I also remember having to beg and plead regarding the daemon engines untill it was finally decided we might get one generic stat line for them, the hounds of khourne if I recall correctly ended up being some generic daemons instead, I cant recall for sure others although I thought ?remembered the plague catapults and plague tower and maybe the primarchs all falling into this catchall excuse at the time.
Now I admit I'm just trying to remember and not actually digging these out of all the posts on the subject or word for word.

It was discussed many times but I don' t think anything was actually cut except the daemons.

Sure, but that wasn't due to model production.

As much as it disapoints me not to see GW produce models to support my favourite game I think all of these can easilly be represented on the tabletop with things that are easilly available.  I have just been making up a large Chaos army and didn't have any problems finding what I wanted.

Greater Daemons - as already mentioned the Warmaster ones are great.

Lesser Daemons - Warmaster stands are good for these as well

Daemon Princes - Warmaster bits are again suitable

Obliterators - I just wrapped a bit of greenstuff around imperial robots to make them look more like an obliterator.

Death Wheels - Chimeral tank tracks around two 40k dreadnaught bases with some guns added looks good.

Dreads and Bikes - Marine ones

Infantry - Marine or Guard

Defilers seem to be the trickiest one of all, haven't really worked out a solution to that.

I'm hoping we don't get some cut down list that removes anything that a model won't be produced for.  I would rather just see everyone support each other with ideas to make do and get some cool and diverse armies happening.

Of course the release of a full range of models would be great.

Lesser Daemons

Daemon Princes

Infantry

All the above will be coming on the plastic infantry sprue.

The only models in your list that will have no easily-available proxies are:

Obliterators
Death Wheels
Defilers

I think the point of that is that DP are infantry and you can easily trick out an infantry stand to represent one without an appreciable amount of converting.  Selection of models and paint job should suffice.
