As a squad of 3, the Hellblades are also quite impervious to most AA that I see as you usually get two through (3 if lucky enough) to continue the mission. That is why I think they are exceptional for their points.

Ok then hellblades+spacecraft seem ok then

Helltalons - 45cm AA shot seems to be the issue. How does reducing that to 30cm and costs to 200 sound?

i've been running those stats at 225 with no real issue (though they've been largely underperforming compared to my artillery for the same role. so perhaps the drop to 200 will do them good. alternately i have been considering giving them IC on the bombs to further encourage their role as the bombers of the army)

I believe it merely comes down to the role within the army.

Chaos (I would think) would want to have the flexibility of using their aircraft for air engagements and/or ground attacks rather than specialising in this area. So while a drop to 200 points may encourage their use, in a tournament sense (dependent on meta-game), I cannot understand why you would give up options other than taking them as a 2nd aircraft choice - possible.

Why should the Twin Lascannon of the Hell Talon suddenly shoot less far than the very same weapon as on the Marauder?

because the marauder cant intercept. it makes the helltalon into a vehicle it is not supposed to be
frankly i dont think the marauder should have that kind of range either, but the impact there is minor

If the Talon is going to drop to this cost I'm going to have to have a look at the LatD Firelord as 2 for 300pts is starting to look rather expensive.

If you consider anything other than "because game balance" to be needed (which you shouldn't by the way; game balance should always be paramount) then just imagine that hitting a basically stationary tank on the ground at whatever realworld distance 45cm is is a lot harder than hitting an enemy fighter in the air at the same range, doubly so as it's a lot less agile than other dedicated interceptors.

The Marauder's Twin Lascannon also has AA4+. If anything then the Hell Talon's Twin Lascannon should be even BETTER because it is a Fighter-Bomber compared to being a Bomber which the Marauder is.

It's not without precedent. Twin HBs on a Thunderhawk = 30 cm AA, twin HBs on a Landing craft = 15cm.

And this is from the main book, not a fan list.

Game balance trumps all IMO.

Bad precedent to call - Look at the weapon arcs.
