In practice, I very much doubt many people will care.
I'm hoping that this is the case, because I really do not want to have to rebase all my Minotaurs and Trolls.
After a bit of thought, and ordering some boxed sets of Chaos infantry from GW, I've come up with a starting point for the army list:
Khorne Coven 1: Demagogue, six Mutants, Icon Bearer, five Big Mutants, Daemonic Pact: 340
Khorne Coven 2: Demagogue, six Mutants, Icon Bearer, five Big Mutants, Daemonic Pact: 340
Khorne Coven 3: Demagogue, six Cultists, five Big Mutants, Daemonic Pact: 300
Tzeentch Coven 1: Arch Heretic, six Cultists, Icon Bearer, five Big Mutants, Daemonic Pact: 340
Tzeentch Coven 2: Demagogue, six Cultists, five Mutants, Daemonic Pact, four Traitor Fire Support, Hydra: 350
Tzeentch Coven 3: Demagogue, six Cultists, five Mutants, four Traitor Fire Support, Hydra: 325
Lord of Battles: 400
Khorne Daemon Engines 1: 300
Khorne Daemon Engines 2: 300
Three Doomwings: 150
One Firelord: 150
Traitor Artillery Battery: 325
Daemon Pool: 2 Greater Daemons 200, eight Lesser Daemons 180
Total: 4000
Notes:As much as I would like to mechanise some of my units, I cannot afford to buy Chimeras at the moment, as I'm on a very tight budget, and I've recently updated my 40K Eldar army, and purchased Chaos and Eldar infantry for Epic, so I cannot afford anything else at the moment. A footslogging force will, therefore, have to suffice for the moment.
I have quite a few Imperial Guard models and plastics left on sprues from the Space Marine era, but I cannot check precise numbers until I get home. It may be possible to me to take Sentinels, Rough Riders, more Traitor Fire Support, and such the like though, so let me know if any of these options would make for good tactical choices, and I will consider them.
I would love to field Silver Towers, but I only have two, so unless anyone has a couple spare that I can buy from them, they are not an option unfortunately.
The basic plan is to attack in one place to try to overall my opponent (who plays Space Marines) by sheer weight of numbers, and surprise attacks from daemons, while the two shooting oriented Tzeentch Covens and Basilisks provide fire support.
The Lord of Battles has a dismal record from Space Marine two, having been destroyed in every game in which he was used, and that's an awful lot of games, so I am hoping that he will redeem himself in the name of Khorne!
I haven't decided how I'm going to use the Daemon Engines yet, so any advice would be appreciated, but they have always been my favourite Chaos units, so they are definitely staying.
So, does this list stand a chance against Marines? I know I will be outmanoeuvred, but my formations are larger, so I should be able to get into combat to try an overwhelm the Marines in an assault before they can redeploy, or am I being optimistic?
