I have my initial 3000 list printed and painted. I failed to get some AA so im rush ordering some hulks for that then Ill be putting them on the table.

Hello, I'd just like to propose a minor change to the Death Guard list and see what people think of it.

The Walker Horde formation can take the "Walkers" upgrade which can include Dreadnoughts. However, because of the difference in speed and the lack of Infiltrate, players wouldn't normally take Dreads as an upgrade for that formation.

This led me to the idea of changing the Walker Horde entry to allow Dreadnought formations:

4 x Defilers/Plague Hulks for 275 points OR 4 x Dreadnoughts for 200 points.

I do not believe it would radically change the list and it would still be a hefty 350 points for a formation 7 Dreads (with the full Walker upgrade added). In the event somebody tried to spam basic formations of four, they would be pretty easy to break from shooting and/or engaging in FF. If the formation was spammed and needed to be fixed, the Dreads could always be taken out of the Walker Horde formation entry and made into their own entry in the Elite formation section so it would be at a 1:1 ratio instead of the current 1:2 ratio. Another option is that Dreads could start out as an Elite support formation.

The army is slow by design which is fine, but it would be nice to have another unit that could garrison. Right now there are Retinues, Chosen and Contagion Engines (I don't count the Terminators or Plague Zombies, as teleporting is their bag). Sure you can garrison Contagion Engines, but they're going to want to stay hidden and shoot indirect - whereas the Dreads could be more offensive in nature and provide the army some much needed ranged shooting (including moderate AT shots) and assault prep that the Retinue and Chosen formations lack in their basic configurations.

That definitely sounds worth a try in a few games.

For Contagions, note that garrisoning them (usually off the Blitz objective) is fairly standard as it allows you to reach into the enemy Deployment Zone from the start of the game.

I just noticed that the Blightlord Terminators have the "mounted" special rule, is this an error by chance?

It’s intentional, part of the balancing act for giving them a 5+ Invulnerable on top of 4+ Reinforced.

I played a 3k game with DG vs Eldar today. Pretty brief but I enjoyed it.

list summary

termies with a ton of upgrades

3 retinues with rhinos

2 chosen formations

4 skimmers

4 hulks

1 tower

1 GD 6 LD

we are slowly rebuilding our local player base and plan to do more DG games in the near future.
