Can I buy Dreadclaws for a formation, which has units that can't use the Dreadclaws and decide at deployment time to drop the "incompatible" units or to not use the dreadclaws.

Mate,
The simple answer is No, you can only take the dreadclaws if the whole formation can travel in them. So for Chaos its basically infantry stands and I think Dreads.
