Hi. I dont usually do this, but I have reached a block. I have collected a small force of DRMs Andrayada and Kraytonians. These guys will form the basis of what I hope will be large armies. However, I am unsure exactly what colour schemes to use for them.
I want to use DRM to get away from GW 'cartoony' colour scheme and I am looking for a feel about these minis that is more gritty and 'realistic' and hard sci fi. However, I dont necessarily want to be restricted to green or grey only. Any colour is fine, as long as looks right.
In addition, I have so many 6mm and similar forces, and I really dont want to replicate a colour scheme that I already have assigned to another force (even for another game). This effectively knocks out a camo green (EA Eldar) and blue/black (EA Tau). In addition, and to avoid comparrisons with Paul, I want to avoid the 'studio' colours for these forces.
I have in mind a mid-grey (think Space Wolves of old) with deep red as a secondary colour for the Andrayada. For the Krayt guys, all that I could come up with is purple... but can this be done to look 'realistic'? Alternatively, I was thinking about two or three different shades of blue/grey for them.
I would welcome any comments or suggestions for these guys, as I want to get on and get them painted.
Thanks.

You might want to take a look at camo patterns used on German armor in WWII. I think I remember seeing some tri-color schemes that looked really cool. Or maybe a deserty scheme which uses shades of tans and browns.

Camo is a nice idea, but it takes forever and I want a scheme that I can get on the table with a decent paint job this decade (it takes me long enough to paint a straight scheme!). The tan/brown scheme for the Krayts is a nice idea... reminds me of the original Eldar Warhost boxed set.

I know what you mean about camo, it can take forever.

I saw one guy on the net who used Cosmetic Sponges to get quite a nice camo scheme and it was fast too. Here is sort of what I saw him use:
Sponge Tip Applicators
He would use them to quickly hit a color sort of like the ambush pattern. Then wash the sponge and hit the next color.
Have not tried it yet, but it made sense that it would be quick to use.

Grey and red are a nice combination 0 and grey skin Krays with red armour would work - unless you prefer grey Andrayads with red e.g. head and shoulders?

Hi!
I like red and browns for Kraytonians.
Andrayads look good in metalic colors.
